Weldon BORTON Obituary

BORTON, Weldon L. age 93, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully June 18, 2017 at his home. He was born November 20, 1923 in Fayette, OH to Leon and Lura (Jacoby) Borton. Weldon attended Kanaeur County School until 8th grade and graduated from Fayette High School in 1940. After completing two years of employment in aircraft construction at Hudson Motorcar Co., Weldon was drafted into the US Army.  He was an Intelligence and Reconnaissance Specialist, serving overseas during WWII. He attended Lansing Community College and Northwood University where he received a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Weldon married the late Marjorie Marzolf on May 13, 1944 and together they raised two children. Weldon worked for the State of Michigan as a Highway Traffic Engineer for 39 years. While employed, he was a member of the Institute of Traffic Engineers (ITE). Weldon also earned the "Arthur C. Gibson Outstanding Service Award" in 1987 for his work as editor of the ITE's Michiganite. Weldon was a member of the Holt United Methodist Church, Holt, MI, where he served on the Board of Trustees for several years. He also was a member of the Catalina United Methodist Church, Tucson, AZ, where he was a member of the Homebuilder's Sunday School class. Weldon was proud of his participation with the Boy Scouts of America where he served as an Assistant Scout Master and a Scout Master during the 1960's. He was honored by being elected into the Order of the Arrow. After retirement, Weldon and Marjorie moved to Tucson, AZ. He was involved with the Southern Arizona Hiking Club and volunteered as a Naturalist at Sabino Canyon. Weldon also delivered "mobile meals" to the elderly and handicapped. Weldon had a great love for dogs in particular, and enjoyed their dogs and those of family members and friends. He also appreciated the contribution of all wild creatures to our environment. Weldon will be greatly missed by his children, David Borton and Debbie Quist; his grandchildren, Kristen Savage, Andrea Lynn and Bethany Bertels; and great-grandchildren, Tyler Savage, Zachary Savage, Monica Lynn, James Lynn, Elinor Lynn, Sam Bertels, and Peter Bertels. Besides his parents, Weldon was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie and infant son, James. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at DeepDale Memorial Gardens in Lansing, MI.  An additional memorial hike and luncheon will be scheduled later this year in Tucson, AZ.  Further information will follow through the Southern Arizona Hiking Club. Memorial contributions in Weldon's name may be direct to the TART Trail System or Traverse Bay United Methodist Church.  Arrangements have been entrusted to COVELL FUNERAL HOME of Traverse City.

To the Borton Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.

I 'm so sorry for your loss. Although your grief may seem unbearable, know that God wants to comfort you. Pour out your heart to him in prayer and experience the peace that only he can give. JEREMIAH 29:11
