Alexandra Schorsch Obituary

Alexandra Kollar Schorsch Born February 22, 1951, passed away May 7, 2011. Alex was born in San Francisco, Calif., to Dr. Edward and Mrs. Ann Kollar. The family moved to Tucson in 1968 and Alex graduated from Canyon Del Oro in 1968 and Vassar College in 1972, summa cum laude, with an anthropology degree. During summers off, Alex worked at the original El Charro and became close to the Flores family. After college, she married Phillip Blackerby in 1974 and the two of them moved to Austin, Texas, where she ran Planned Parenthood and was on the staff of Senator Lloyd Benson. The couple divorced in 1986. She eventually moved back to Tucson and, with five others, opened Seis, a Mexican/Indigenous furniture store. Alex then started Borderlands Outlet Store from scratch, traveling through Mexico in an old pickup truck with $3,000 in her tennis shoe, and established relationships with artisans deep within Mexico. That business grew to a thriving several million dollar company that sold merchandise to major stores and catalog companies worldwide. She sold Borderlands in 1997 and married John Schorsch, MD, in December of that year. The newlyweds moved to Missoula, Mont. for a time, and returned to Tucson in 1998. Soon thereafter, Alex was hired by Long Realty, to coordinate promotional items and special events. Eventually, Long hired her to start its title company. Within a relatively short period of time, she turned this fledgling branch of Long into a successful business. In 2007 Alex left Long, got her real estate license and hung her shingle with Tierra Antigua Realty. In 2010 she embarked on a new business adventure, Option$, a high-end women's resale boutique and Just Add Water, a cafe. Alex was always there to help others in new business ventures and in times of need. Her artistic creative talents were unsurpassed. Alex will always be remembered for her intelligence, her love of the arts, her talent in entertaining and her sense of style and business acumen. She will be greatly missed by her many friends, family, and those of us who are her surrogate family. Alex is survived by her husband of 15 years, John Schorsch, MD.; half-sister, Judy Huart of Paris, France; half-brothers, Peter Kollar, Tucson and Jeffery Kollar, Chicago, Ill. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at St. Francis in the Foothills, 4625 East River Road on Saturday, June 4, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.

I love you Alex - I will miss our every day conversations, our time spent together and my heart goes out to John every moment of every day. Oh Alex, my "Tucson Mama" you will live in my heart forever. I loved you like a mother, and you did all of those things in body and spirit that a mother would do for me, I can only hope that I was equally as good to you over the years. I'll never forget how angry you were with me when I eloped and denied you the chance to throw the wedding, I regret that so very much now. Your loss hurts more than I can put into words. Who could forget your sardonic sense of humor, your wit & intelligence, and you passion to help others?! - John, you will be in my heart forever as well, every moment - every day.

Alex, I loved you like my sister, I respected your brilliance and intellect, I appreciated your care and support, I admired your passion....I loved sharing ideas about the world's problems, talking with you about anything from healthcare to the economy. I could talk to you about anything and you cared and were knowledgable. You wanted to change the world and make it a better place. The world is a better place because you were here...I admired your microfinance projects in Mexico helping artisans take care of their families with dignity...I loved the night in your store when the woman who was stranded, cold, lost came to your front door--you helped her, gave her shoes, food, drink, and a backpack, resppectfully listened to her story and gave her back her dignity....and you said to me, "that is what this business is about--helping and empowering women." That night epitomizes for me, who you were--kind, generous, creative, fearless, compassionate, with a passion to selflessly make the world a better place. I miss you...I wish we could talk again. My heart hurts...Rest in peace, my friend. I love you, Chris

I am unable to express just the right words to explain how much Alex taught me about the world of Title and business in general. She was very caring of all;even our personal lives. Over the years we stayed in touch through various networking sites. She was always eager to hear about my latest adventure. Alex will be missed greatly by all whose life she touched. God Bless you Alex.
