Helen McKenzie Obituary

Helen M. McKenzie 9/22/1929 - 3/3/2011 81, known to all who loved her as a wonderful wife, mother, "Mimi" and friend, Helen is finally at rest after a six month battle with leukemia. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Steven (Lisa), Mary (Steve) and Philip (Tracy) and their families including six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and her many friends. Helen was a proud Hoosier, a registered nurse and a dedicated fan of her Arizona Wildcat basketball team. Since being widowed from her husband, Nelson in 1986, she traveled across North America in her van; to the Pacific Northwest where she visited Alaska, Washington and British Columbia, to many points on the East Coast where she visited Prince Edward Island, New England and the Carolinas. Many adventures were had. She was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. All who knew her will remember her as the perfect example of a loving and caring person. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4000 E. University Blvd. Private interment East Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Trinity Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or to Tucson Community Food Bank. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.

Halen will be remembered as "Mimi" to our family. She babysat my daughter, Marissa, in the early 1980's. "Mimi" was a mother, grandmother, and teacher to Marissa. She was dearly loved by my duaghter and the other two girls she babysat at that time. To this day Marissa still refers to Helen as "Mimi." She will be dearly missed.

I first met Helen while in high school and we would go over to the house for swimming parties. Several years ago we reconnected through my Mother. Helen was a caring, thoughtful friend to all. Her and Mom had many adventures traveling the country via the Blue Beast. We have always appreciated her spirit and sense of adventure. We had the pleasure of her company this summer visiting us and camping in the Tetons with our family. Helen loved her family dearly and we enjoyed the stories of her children and grandchildren of which she was so proud. Our deepest sympathy to the McKenzie family for your loss. We wish you peace. God bless.

Helen McKenzie was a wonderful person. We met when I worked in the office at her church. I could call Helen any time I needed a volunteer to help with bulletins or newsletters (or anything) and she always showed up cheerful and ready to work. Helen was also a friend and she had my daughter and I over to swim in that incredible pool of hers. McKenzie family, your Mother was someone very special who made a tremendous impact on this world in her own gentle way. I will always remember her lighthouse collection, but most importantly I will always remember your mother as someone who was very happy, caring and dear. I am sorry for your loss.

Helen will always be in my heart. I met her when I was a child and she was a Reeder and have loved her since. She helped make me who I am today, A strong lady, and a Registered Nurse! May God bless her beautiful soul, and all her family and friends.

Mrs McKenzie growing up she was our second mom when you were at her house. I remember her making cookies when I stayed the night. I only remember one rule she had for us was we couldn't swim unless she was home of course we didn't always follow her rule and she always knew when we didn't.She was always there during are track meets cheering for all of us. Mrs. McKenzie you were loved by all and never forgotten. Phil and Tracy my thoughts and prayers are with you during this hard time.God bless you and all your family.
