Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Nathan J. Nylander, US Air Force Captain.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

Yours was an incomparable act of heroism unequaled by most, and demonstrated only by those brave few among men. You stood your ground in the face of evil, and gave your life so that others would live. There is no greater act of love that anyone could ever demonstrate, than yours. I never met you, but I most certainly wish now that I had. I thank you sir for your service to our nation. You will always be beloved by your family, and you will forever be a hero to us all.

To the family and friends of Capt. Nathan J. Nylander:
Nathan gave the ultimate sacrifice and will be held in the hearts of Americans forever. I cannot and will not let our fallen heroes be forgotten. My deepest sympathy to you. "Some gave all."

Nathan was a special kid and man who grew up a long block from our home (when he was about 9 yrs old). He was part of our family, and only went home if he had too. To see this boy grow into a man eating biscuits and gravy on Sat. or Sunday mornings at our house , he was like another son. Nathan was a hero in our lives, like the way he died. Nathan was a very special person, we are grateful to have known him and to remember him as the great person he was. I will always miss him.... my heart goes out to Mary, his mother, his sister, and his wife and children. We already miss him... Jeannine Richards

Capt Nylander, words never do justice to the service or the sacrifices we of uniform make for our country. Though we make those sacrifices willingly and happily. My deepest condolences go to your family.
I remember well our days in forecasting school. They're fond ones and I'd hoped in my 21 years of service we'd have another chance of serving together. It does me proud to know all you achieved. Your country is proud of you. God speed. Fair skies and all the best to you and your family through these trying times. Mission complete my friend.
Sincerely,

My first significant memory of Nathan was when we were 15 and he was visiting his dad for the summer. We were at the swimming pool in Fairbury and I remember him diving off the side into the water wearing flippers on his feet and he kicked me in the head. I don’t think he realized he kicked me at first. I was a little bit mad at first but after talking to him for a little while I got over it. We ended up spending a lot of time together that summer. Nathan was a lot of fun to be around. I remember after he left to go back to Texas I was heartbroken to see him leave. He’s given so many people so many great memories and has touched so many lives. My heart goes out to all of his family. Thank you for all you've done. RIP old friend.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you .
I Salute You.

I had the priviledge of going thru part of forecasting school with Nathan at Keesler AFB. I have not seen him since that time, but I remember his demeanor. He always was a consumate professional. He was kind, and soft spoken. He got along with everyone, and I can see based on comments left about him, he carried that throughout his career. I am not surprised.
May God shine upon your family at this time, and while his time on earth is done, he rejoices with our heavenly Father.

Please accept my deepest sympathy and also thanks for everything your family and Nathan have sacrificed to keep our country free. May God bless you all and help you through this difficult time of loss and keep you strong in knowing that you have one awesome guardian Angel looking after each and every one of you. We all grew up together and one thing I remember about Nathan is how well mannered and nice he was to everyone and that his sister (Nikki) always looked up to him and all she would ever talk about was how awesome her brother was. Nathan you will be truly missed by many and I hope your children will remember how awesome and strong there daddy really was. We will never forget those who have fallen to keep us free. God Bless you all.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Capt. Nathan J. Nylander our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Nathan. And to Nathan it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while deployed to Afghanistan with the U.S. Air Force. No greater love and patriotism is shown than a man lay down his life in service to his country. Nathan, you are a brave Air Force Warrior and a true Patriot. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,307 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Nathan’s family and loved ones.
