Dear Mrs. Markham - I was behind you in traffic today and saw the tribute to your son on your rear windshield and your license plate. My heart goes out to your and your family. As the wife, niece, daughter and sister of military veterans, I know how proud you must be of his service. Thank you for raising such a fine son and for giving him to us for a while to protect and defend us. May God comfort you always and especially this Christmas. - A grateful fellow Tucsonan

Almighty Father, whose command is over all and whose love never fails, make me aware of Thy presence and obedient to Thy will. Keep me true to my best self, guarding me against dishonesty in purpose and deed and helping me to live so that I can face my fellow Marines, my loved ones, and Thee without shame or fear. Protect my family. Give me the will to do the work of a Marine and to accept my share of responsibilities with vigor and enthusiasm. Grant me the courage to be proficient in my daily performance. Keep me loyal and faithful to my superiors and to the duties my Country and the Marine Corps have entrusted to me. Help me to wear my uniform with dignity, and let it remind me daily of the traditions which I must uphold. If I am inclined to doubt, steady my faith; if I am tempted, make me strong to resist; if I should miss the mark, give me courage to try again. Guide me with the light of truth and grant me wisdom by which I may understand the answer to my prayer.

Up until a few days ago, Ryan was just one of the guys I went to high school with. We didn't know each other very well, but I had a lot of respect for him when he joined the Marines. I was saddened to hear of his passing, but relieved to hear that he is a brother in Christ. As I learned more about Ryan via listening to his friends and family. I found out he was an amazing man who loved God, his family, friends and country. I wish I had known him better and I will count myself blessed if I meet a man as exceptional as Ryan.
Until we meet again, your sister in Christ,

Diana and Markham Family,
I want to start this off by saying that I am so proud to have known Ryan. He was a constant pillar of strength for both Valentin and I. Being stationed in Hawaii it was very easy to feel alone being so far away from friends and family, but every single time Ryan would come over or we all would hang out he brought over this feeling home. His laugh, his smile, his jokes, the way he could get along with just about anyone. He was and will always be truly one of a kind. Diana, speaking on the phone with you last night made me realize just how amazing you and your family are... in this time of such sadness your voice and faith are so strong. You are a true example of such grace and strength. And as much as your family feels lucky to have had Ryan, I'm sure he feels just as lucky to have had you... Ryan, you were such an amazing man, friend, Marine, son, and person. While I am heartbroken at the fact that you are physically no longer here, I know that you are still very much with us. I still hear your laugh, I still see your face... and I know youre still listening. I am so sorry your life journey had to end so soon, but I know that you are in a good place, and I know we will meet again one day and I'll make sure and do the Gobble song for you ;)... I love you Turkey watch over all of us and know that you will forever be in our hearts and minds. RIP buddy.

Markham Family –
Your Ryan, our Ryan, brought so much joy to the lives of each person he touched. His commitment to God, Country, and Family was demonstrated each time I saw him. Ryan’s willingness to attend TAMMS luncheons and receive the hugs from grateful Marine Moms touched my soul.
May the words of love and support expressed here bring you comfort in the coming days and weeks. You are loved! My son, also a former Marine, posted this on Facebook: SEMPER FI, Marine. May Chesty greet you at your new AO.

Dear Ryan,
Wow, what do I say. You left us way to soon Ryan but I know that you're in heaven with friends and family and they greeted you at the door, including your dogs:) I know you're having fun! You are missed so very much here on this earth though. Someday, we will all be together again, and until then you will always be in my memories and in my heart.
I watched you grow up from a cute little boy to a fine young man who became a marine serving our country.
A memory that keeps coming back to me is when you and Michael were in the third grade and you came over to our house and played out on the golf course....then the sprinklers came on. You two had so much fun that day! I have no idea though of what you guys did to that golf course and I'm not sure I want to know...lol
In the meantime, here is a verse:
"A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance."
Ecclesiastes 3:4
Keep dancing Ryan! see ya soon.
Love ya
