Amelia Tellez BENTON

BENTON, Amelia Tellez passed peacefully in her sleep July 31, 2017 in her Barrio adobe home where she was born on October 28, 1911. She was 105 years old. Amelia, a descendant of Presidio San Agustín del Tucson soldier José Gausino Tellez, is preceded in death by her parents, Ciriaco and Angelita Felix Tellez; her husband, Robert Lee Benton and son, Eugene Benton; also, by her sister, Concepcion and brothers, Tomas, Roberto, Frank, Ricardo, Angel and Alfredo. Amelia was primarily a homemaker but occasionally worked as a cashier at some of the Chinese-owned grocery stores in Barrio Anita. She is survived by her son, Robert Lee Benton Jr.; granddaughter, Cristina and grandsons, Lee, David, Daniel, Steven, Santiago and Damian. She leaves behind six great-grandchildren, Daniel, Armando, Aleyda, Eugene, Sabrina and Amada Benton; sister-in-law, Cora Tellez and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, August 6, 2017 at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass is at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2017 at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave. Interment will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery.
