Guadalupe R. SINOHUI

SINOHUI, Guadalupe R. (Lupe) 88, was called home by our Lord on June 23, 2017. Preceded in death by husband, Joe H. Sinohui; son, Joe, Jr.; daughter, Bea and granddaughter, Elisa Corrales. Survived by daughters, Lucia (Howard) Stansbery, Alicia (Danny) Hernández, Anna (Richard) Sánchez, Patricia (Ray) Orozco; ten grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren. Lupe was born in Twin Buttes, Arizona on December 30, 1928. She met Joe in Nogales, Arizona, in 1946 upon his return from the war. They married and moved to Tucson. Lupe worked for many years for the Saint Vincent De Paul Society where she found fulfillment helping people in need. She was active in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for many years. Her most satisfying role was serving as Director of the Pascua Neighborhood Center in Old Pascua Village. She had a great love and respect for the Yaqui people and culture and was a great advocate for the people of Old Pascua and 39th Street. Lupe was actively involved in social justice issues in our community. She fought for the rights of immigrants, farmworkers, women and more personally against police misconduct in local minority communities. She loved her family and treasured her many lifelong friendships. She was a strong, independent woman who lived life on her terms. Lupe's family thanks the Casa De La Luz Hospice team who were so supportive during her time of transition and Fr. Ricardo Elford for his spiritual guidance. Visitation at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY (South Chapel) on Friday, June 30, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at St. Augustine Cathedral followed by burial at Holy Hope Cemetery.
