Lucia DEGRAZIA Obituary

DEGRAZIA, Lucia a Tucson native born May 15, 1938 passed away on January 12, 2017 in San Diego, CA at the age of 78 years. Preceded in death by her parents, Ted DeGrazia and Alexandra Diamos Kerson and grandson, Edward Ownbey. She graduated from Tucson High School in 1956, attended the University of Arizona and later Pima Medical Institute. She retired in 2012 from Carondelet St. Joseph's Hospital where she worked as a PBX phone operator for 14 years. Prior to that she worked many years at a medical laboratory and before that a housewife and mother raising her three daughters. She absolutely adored her parents and her children. Our hearts will be with her forever. She is survived by her daughters, Angela Hooey (Al) of San Diego, CA, Christine Garva (Rick) of San Diego, CA and Cindy Bustamante of Tucson, AZ; sister, Kathie Bushroe (Jim) of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY (South Chapel) 240 S. Stone Ave., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Monday, January 30, 2017, 9:00 a.m. at Saint Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Arrangements by CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, INC.

I had known Lucia for a number of years now and she was the most nicest and kindest,respectful person I have ever met.never a bad word about anyone. Had always enjoyed her stories about her father who Id admired very much plus the fact that we were co-workers at the hospital.Lucia I will miss you very much. God Bless !!!

I am sorry to hear of Lucia's passing, my thoughts and prayers are with her entire family. Lucia and I worked together for several years, at Associates in Laboratory Medicine. I so enjoyed her smile, her cheerfulness, and friendship. She will be greatly missed. Another Angel in Heaven.

I had the most sincere pleasure of being able to work with Luci at St. Joseph's hospital for many years. Whenever we talked, she always had an infectious smile on her face, and never did I hear her utter an ill word about anybody. She will truly be missed!

I am a former classmate from Tucson High and was in Tucson in October for our 60th HS Reunion. I thought of Lucia and inquired about her. The day before I left for home, another classmate with whom I was staying, surprised me and took me to see her father Ted Degrazia's Chapel of the Sun and the beautiful grounds.

My name is Rhonda. I worked at St. Joseph's and knew Lucy well. I retired in 2015, and did not keep touch with people as they transferred to St Marys. I had a special connection with Lucy. We talked when I would call about different things. I found out today that she had passed. I would like you to know that my prayers and thoughts are with you all. I remember visiting Ted DeGrazia's Art Studio on Campbell Ave several times as a kid growing up as my dad was into his art..
His studio was kind of like a cave with colored glass and marbles stuck in the cement floor and plaster walls... with his originals hung on the 'cave' walls. I wonder if it's still there..?
Ted DeGrazia was famous for his 'impressionalistic' paintings of Indian Children and at one time had a studio right here in La Jolla-San Diego.
I have been lucky to have some of his prints, that I have picked up at thrift stores over the years, hanging in my 'cave.'

I went to high school and graduated with Lucia. She was a very sweet young lady, we went riding a few times at the El Conquistador Stables. Unfortunately we lost contact after graduation. My sincere condolences to her family. She is with Her Lord and Savior now!!

I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Lucia when I worked at Carrillo's for several years. She was so kind and always brought in something to eat for the crew. I miss the conversations we had also. She will be remembered. My condolences to the family.
