Henry Gert MAIER

MAIER, Henry Gert was born in Stuttgart, Germany on May 29, 1923. He died on June 5, 2017. Henry is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, (Cynthia). Daughters, Katherine (Neubach) (deceased), Barbara (Burger) and son, Richard. Seven grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Henry came to the United States in 1930 and became an American citizen in 1947 in New York City. He graduated from MIT (Boston) in 1944. Was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Africa and France (Omaha Beach). He was in German territory when the Armistice was signed ending World War II. On his return to the US he enrolled at Harvard (Boston), he received his Doctorate in Engineering in 1950. He also married Cynthia. His first job was in California working for Douglas Aircraft. In 1961 Henry went to work for Aerospace Corporation in El Segundo, CA. He had entered the Space Age. He retired in 1987. He was responsible for 49 launches of Satellites to outer space, all successes. Henry was a Stamp collector, an avid reader of fiction and History. He loved watching sports on TV, Hockey, Football and Baseball. After moving to Tucson in 1993 he added Basketball to his TV watching. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Alban's Church at 3870 Old Sabino Canyon Rd., Tucson, AZ 85750.
