Joy M. HAYES

HAYES, Joy M. Nurse, Mother, and Wife. Joy Marjanski Hayes went home to the Lord on December 27, 2016. Joy was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 7, 1928 and lived in Des Moines, Iowa during her high school and college years. Joy graduated from the College of Nursing at the University of Iowa where she met her husband Donald Hayes. Don and Joy were married in Des Moines on June 25, 1950 and they moved to Tucson where Joy had her first job in the ophthalmology practice of Drs. C.S. O'Brien and Sherwood Burr. When Don took a position in pharmaceutical sales with Parke-Davis in 1951, they moved to southern California where their two sons, John and Jeff were born. After Don's promotion to a management position, the family relocated to Grosse Pointe, Michigan in 1963 where their daughter, Kim was born. In 1971, the family moved to Mendham, New Jersey after Warner Lambert acquired Don's company. While in New Jersey, Joy returned to work by helping a young doctor, Dr. Leslie Schlessinger, MD, set-up his office and by serving as his office manager. In 1991, Don and Joy fulfilled a life-long desire to return to the southwest and retired in Tucson where they enjoyed the warm winter weather, big skies, and wonderful mountain views. Joy's greatest joy was when she celebrated her spiritual birthday, June 23, 1982. Her love for the Lord was evident as she touched many lives with the Gospel message. Joy served in women's ministries and on the missions committee in her churches. Joy's three children were her true gift of the Lord: son, John (Jane) of Bend, Oregon, Jeff (MariaElena) of West Chester, Ohio, and daughter, Kim Robinson of McKinney, Texas. She is survived by her children, a half-sister, Darleen Deckelmann of Virden, Illinois, and seven grandchildren, Thomas and Eric Hayes, Andrew, Rebekah, and Peter Hayes, and Megan (Drew) McConnell and Michael Robinson. Memorial Services will be held at Rincon Mountain Presbyterian Church, 8445 E Tanque Verde Rd, Tucson, AZ 85749 at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017.
