Judy Louise Eichelberg BOWERS

1944 - 2017

BOWERS, Judy Louise Eichelberg 72, passed away August 24, 2017,  in Tucson, AZ, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 2, 1944, in Evanston, IL, to John and Mildred Eichelberg. Judy grew up in Wheeling, IL. She graduated from Prospect HS, Mt. Prospect, IL, 1962. She attended Northern Illinois Univ., DeKalb, IL, and received B.S. Ed. in Home Economics 1968 and M.S.Ed. in School Guidance and Counseling 1972. Judy also attended the Univ. of Arizona, Tucson, and received M.S.Ed. in Educational Administration 1983 and Ed.D. in Educational Leadership 2004. Judy was a Home Economics teacher at Malta HS, Malta, IL, 1968-1973. She was a School Counselor and later Guidance Director at Sabino HS, Tucson, 1978-1994. In 1994 she was appointed Guidance Director for the Tucson Unified School District, and held that position until 2006. From 1994-2017 Judy was a consultant on School Counseling to many school districts, states and in foreign countries. Judy was instrumental in the forming of the Arizona School Counselor Association and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), and served as President and on the boards of both organizations. She was co-author of the "National Model for School Counseling" published by ASCA, 2003-present, used throughout the US and the world. Judy is survived by her ex-spouse, Robert; their daughter, Lisa; their son, Brian (Margeaux); brother, John (Gladys); grandchildren, Andrew, Brynna, Madden, Harley and Harrison, all of Tucson; many nieces and nephews and other relatives. Judy was preceded in death by her parents. The Celebration of Judy's Life and Eternal Life will be at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church, 710 S. Kolb Rd., Tucson, Sunday, September 10, 2017, 3:00 p.m. (can also be seen live streaming at follutheran.org). The family will greet friends, relatives and guests following the service in the Family Life Center at FOL Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Haven Totes, 710 S.
