MASONE, Mary amazing wife, selfless mother and joyful friend has joined her maker, August 30, 2017. She will be remembered by her family as a shining light who truly made a difference in this world, simply with her presence. To know Mary, was to love her! Mary was married to Lt. Col. Joseph Masone for 54 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two children, Joe (Emily) and Maria (Tom) and her two grandchildren, Gillian and Joseph. Mary, originally from Biloxi, Mississippi, was a longtime nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tucson. In Mary's spirit, you may choose to practice a random act of kindness in her honor. Flowers may die and wilt, but kindness is eternal. Mary's life will be celebrated Saturday, September 2, 2017, 10:00 a.m., at St. Anne's Convent, 3820 N. Sabino Canyon Road. I have many fond memories of Mary from working with her at St. Joseph's Hospital. Also would see her and Joe at Mass at St. Anne's Convent. She was a very wonderful woman filled with the love of the Lord. I know she is greatly missed. Love and prayers to her wonderful family.

I met Mary in the late 1990's at the hospital in Tucson. As we were leaving the hospital chapel we began conversing. I explained my father was in CCU as he had suffered a heart attack and that I had flown in from CA. Mary came back the next day and asked if she could take me for coffee, which I thought was so kind. It didn't take long for me to feel like I had known her for years instead of just a couple of hours. When I left to go back to CA, she insisted on taking me to the airport and even waited with me until I boarded the plane. My dad survived and lived in a retirement home where Mary visited him regularly as she knew I couldn't visit him as often as I would like. About 18 months later my father was dying and Mary was at his bedside as I was not able to get there in time. I believe his last spoken word, barely audible, was Mary. My father loved Mary as did I. As Catholics Mary and I were taught at a very young age that God created us to know Him, love Him and serve Him by serving others. Mary was the perfect example of someone who did exactly that and with amazing grace.
