Dennis DOWNEY Obituary

DOWNEY, Dennis C. "Butch" 71, passed away peacefully in the early hours of January 1, 2018 after a courageous standoff with cancer. One of seven children, Butch was born October 20, 1946 in Muskegon, Michigan, and moved to Tucson as a youngster in 1951. He graduated from Flowing Wells High School, proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserve and in 1973, founded L.A. Downey & Sons with his father, Lex, and two brothers. Butch built and operated the sand and rock business alongside family for more than 40 years, as president, but his greatest professional joy was in being out on the open road, making deliveries – and countless friends along the way. Butch cherished his family and friendships above all else; he also had a passion for classic cars, his dog Benji, country music, his faith and church, and spending time in the White Mountains and in California. He is deeply loved and will always be remembered for his outgoing, sunny personality, endless positivity, loving devotion to family and, most of all, his enormously kind heart. He is survived by his wife, Glenda; daughter, Gena; stepdaughters, Dodie, Barbie and Lynne, and six grandchildren. A Celebration of his life will be held Friday, February 9, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at New Life Bible Fellowship, 4900 W. Cortaro Farms Road. Arrangements by MARANA MORTUARY.

Hello again - I forgot to give you the heads up that mom was coming - as you know she is already there, find her if you haven't. Tell her that spending the last minutes with her as she passed was beautiful and I hope she enjoyed Supermarket Flowers - I picked it because it said, "You were an angel in the shape of my mom!" "When I fell down you'd be there holding me up. Spread your wings as you go, when God takes you back, he'll say Hallelujah, You're home".
Please tell her that I tried so very hard to save her, her body just said no! It breaks my heart to the deepest of sorrow to lose her. We were so close, it was the mom I always wanted. So tell her thank you and that I love her more than words can express.
Take care of her and I'll see you both in about 25 years- if the Lord allows!

Dear brother, it's hard to phathom that six years have gone by. Gena and your grandson, Griffin, miss you, as we all do. I'm sure that you are looking down and marveling at the little character that Griffin is. He is bright and curious about everything. I know that you can see him, I just wish he'd had a chance to know you.

Five years have passed since you left us and got your Heavenly Wings. Griffin continues to grow and learn. I wish he could have met you. You are thought of often. Until we meet again, Love, Lexann

It´s hard to believe it´s been four years since you left this world. Your grandson, Griffin, has followed in your footsteps in his love of anything on wheels. At just three years old, he already knows the names of all the planets and their moons. He is also like you in that he never meets a stranger. You are missed by your little sister and the rest of the family.

It is hard to believe that it's been two years since your passing. You are very missed and I am confident that you are looking down watching Griffin grow into a curious toddler.

Glenda, Gena, and family... you are in our thoughts and Prayers, as we know your hearts are hurting with your loss. Butch was a very special friend to our family (Raland and Delia Tinker) for over 40 years, and my father's best friend and fishing buddy. His laughter was contageous. We are left with so many memories that make us smile and warm our hearts, and we hope that your memories, and his love will be a comfort to you as well.

Prayers of comfort Glenda and family as you honor Butch's legacy.

You could not ask for a more genuine person than Butch. Many of us grew up with Butch since grade school at Flowing Wells and always appreciated his infectious smile and sincere personality. It was always good when he would show up at some of our high school reunions. Butch was the kind of person you could always enjoy conversing and catching up with. Rest in peace Butch.

I've known Butch since 1961 as we both traveled through Flowing Wells High School. Butch was always upbeat positive and friend to all! Since Flowing Wells we hadn't seen each other very often but whenever I would see Butch even if it had been 10 years he was just as friendly as when we saw each other every day in high school.
My impression of Butch was and is that he was a friend to all, always upbeat and positive, and always had good things to say about people if you needed help Butch was always there. He will be missed!! Goodbye old friend, travel safe!

To my dear brother, Butch; I know that you are at peace in the arms of the Lord and reunited with our mother, June, and father, Lex, as well as our sisters who passed away so many years ago. I am grateful for the time we spent together over recent months. Your memory was amazing and I will cherish your reminiscing about our childhoods with clarity and detail. You will be greatly missed by your brothers and sisters and their families. Rest in peace, Butch. Love, Lexann
