Bryna BEN-ASHER Obituary

BEN-ASHER, Bryna Shirley, 78, died peacefully in her sleep on June 14, 2014. She was born in Buffalo, N.Y., to Victoria and Abraham Zeller, on June 20, 1935. She received her bachelor's of science in physical therapy from the University of Buffalo, where she met M. David Ben-Asher. They married in 1956 and moved to Tucson in 1964. Bryna served on the Catalina Foothills District School Board for seven years, including a term as board president. Her work as a physical therapist was followed by a second career as a travel agent, enabling her to see the world, one cruise at a time. After retiring in 2007, Bryna pursued her passion for the Sonoran Desert as an educator with the Sabino Canyon Volunteer Naturalists and a member of the Santa Catalina Volunteer Patrol. Those hours hiking and teaching in Sabino Canyon and on Mount Lemmon brought her great joy. Bryna was preceded in death by her brother, Sanford (Carol) Zeller; infant son, Steven Ben-Asher and daughter, Susan Rachel (Jon) Newton. She leaves behind her brother, Robert (Susan) Zeller of Houston, Texas; her husband of 57 years, David; daughters, Nancy Ben-Asher (Tidhar) Ozeri and Judith Ben-Asher (Dan) Hirshfeld; son, Jonathan Ben-Asher; grandchildren, Eshed Ozeri, Geva Ozeri, Halle Ben-Asher and Ellah Ben-Asher, all of Tucson; granddaughter, Shoham Ozeri of Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak, Israel and countless friends, SCVNers and family who will all miss her kindness, grace and loving spirit very much. Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, at EVERGREEN MORTUARY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile. Interment to follow in the Congregation Anshei Israel Section of Evergreen Cemetery. www.evergreen mortuary-cemetery.com Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Anshei Israel, 5550 E. 5th St., Tucson, AZ 85711, or Sabino Canyon Volunteer Naturalists, 5700 N. Sabino Canyon Rd., Tucson, AZ 85750.

I had just finished my school work for the night, ready to turn off my computer. For no earthly reason Susan popped into my head which led me to Google which led me here. The confines of distance and the lack of involvement appear to mean little in the spirit world, and we are tied by forces we are not even aware of, yet. My heartfelt sympathy to you all, our matriarchs and patriarchs cannot be replaced, but live on in our hearts. I let Phyllis and Hillel know of Bryna's passing. We share in your sorrow, if from a distance. Shalom. Steven A. Ben-Asher
