Lilly Weich Obituary

Lilly Weich 94, of Tucson, died March 24, 2011. What a woman! Lilly has led many lives. Born in Poland/Austria in 1916, she immigrated to the USA in 1935 as a young bride. After attending school, she became a US citizen in January 1943. Loving wife (Aaron, deceased 1983) and mother to Martin Weich (deceased 2001) (Sharon) and Ruth Kolker (Ronald). She had a wonderful relationship with her grandchildren: Paul Weich (Marion), Risa Weich (Tim O'Brien deceased 2011) Debbie Mastin (Wayne) and Jeff Kolker (Anne). She was especially proud of her nine great- grandchildren: Aaryn, Leah, Martin, and Jacob Weich; Max, Samantha, and Jacey Kolker; and Carli and Lauren Mastin. She cherished her special times with them, whether it was giving them baking lessons or playing cards. Raising her family in New Jersey, Lilly was a successful businesswoman. Her women's store, The Sample Shop, was a favorite with the women of the north Jersey area. Upon retiring to Tucson in 1969 with her husband Aaron, Lilly became an active volunteer in the community. She was a life member of Hadassah, a devoted volunteer and board member of the Auxiliary of Handmaker Jewish Services for the Aging, a member of the Women's League of Congregation Anshei Israel, and a long term worker and supporter of the Jewish Federation. After learning to drive and getting her driver's license at the young age of 68, Lilly enjoyed visiting shut-ins, and teaching cooking classes at Anshei Israel. She was a superb cook and baker, and up until her recent illness, was baking her delectable pastries. Lilly never stopped learning and relished her 15 years of summer school in San Diego. Lilly taught us all to live life to the fullest with strength and dignity, and endless love. She will be greatly missed - all who knew her loved her. Services Sunday, March 27, 2011, 1:00 p.m. at Congregation Anshei Israel, 5550 E. 5th St., with Rabbi Robert Eisen, Cantor Ivor Lichterman and Rabbi Arthur R. Oleisky officiating. Interment to follow in the Congregation Anshei Israel Section of Evergreen Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be made to Congregation Anshei Israel, Hadassah, or to TMC Hospice (Peppi's House). Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY, N. Oracle & W.
