Angela Halaschak Obituary

HALASCHAK, Angela A. (nee Favia), March 10, 1922 - March 14, 2011. Angela age 89, passed into heaven on March 14, 2011 to be with her beloved husband of 61 years, Joseph, who preceded her in death in 2003. Angie was born in Bari, Italy on March 10, 1922 and moved to the United States with her parents when she was five, settling in Gary, Indiana. She attended Lew Wallace High School in Gary, where she was a classmate of future Kansas City Chiefs Coach, Hank Stram. After graduating from Lew Wallace, Angie married Joseph Halaschak on July 11, 1942. Angie began a long career in retail sales including 20 years as manager of Mellick's Children's Shop in the Village Shopping Center in Gary. She later had a 15 year career in Inventory Control at St. Anthony's Hospital in Crown Point, IN. In 1993, she and Joseph began a new chapter in their lives by relocating to Tucson, Arizona. Angie will be remembered for her kindness, extreme generosity, and gentle nature. She loved cooking, decorating, and traveling, and was fiercely devoted to her children and grandchildren. She was deeply loved and respected by all those she came in contact with. Angie was predeceased by her sister, Rose and two brothers, Nick and Joe. Angie is survived by her son, Joe, Jr. of Merrillville, IN; her daughter, Florene (George) Baltes of Tucson; five grandchildren, Kenneth (Gracie) Piekut of Tucson, Kevin (Carolyn) Piekut of Fresno, CA, Marco (Arlene) Halaschak, Jeffrey and Sheila Halaschak and one great-granddaughter, Kara, all of Merrillville. Angie is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Private (Mass/Services) will be held in Tucson. Angie's ashes will be interred alongside those of her husband's at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
