Eugene William "Bud" DOOLEY

1926 - 2016

DOOLEY, Eugene William "Bud" Eugene, known to friends and family as "Bud", was born April 6, 1926 as the first of nine children to William Joseph and Mary Winifred (Sweeney) Dooley in the farming community of Ramona, South Dakota. He died on November 14, 2016. His father was a rural mail carrier and farmer and Eugene graduated from Ramona High School in 1943. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and served honorably in the Pacific aboard the USS Guilford. He returned to South Dakota and married a rural school teacher, Vera Leona Kattke, on November 29, 1951. Bud worked as a contract "farm to market" hauler for the Ramona Farmer's Cooperative Creamery. He attended South Dakota State University and earned a degree in Civil Engineering in 1960 and moved to Arizona to continue his education, receiving a Master's degree in 1963 from the University of Arizona. He spent eight years at the Sanitary District during which he became the lead engineer, then the next six years as the director of the Pima County Department of Sanitation. In 1977 he purchased an interest in the consulting engineering firm of John S. Collins and Associates and became the majority owner upon the death of Mr. Collins. Later the firm was renamed to Dooley Jones & Associates. After retiring in 1987, Bud and Vera traveled extensively for several years. He is survived by two brothers; two sisters; his wife, Vera; son, Philip (Cintya) Dooley of Phoenix; daughter, Sally Dooley (Ron Hopley) of Tucson and son, Scott (Terri) Dooley of Hereford, Arizona. He has six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at St. Odilia Catholic Church, 7570 N. Paseo Del Norte, Oro Valley, AZ 85704, with Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. Private family inurnment will be at a later date at Southern Arizona Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Sierra Vista, AZ.
