Jean Damewood Obituary

Jean Haupt Damewood passed away peacefully April 30, 2011. She is survived by her two daughters, Becky Wallace and Diane Damewood; grandson, Joshua (Luphyta) Wallace; four great-grandchildren, Nathalie, Luna, Jesus and Josue Lawrence; one brother, Robert R. Haupt, Sr.; three sisters, Betty Ruth Nappier, Joan (Alfred) Miles, Alice (Gordon) Wilburn; many nieces and nephews and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by the love of her life of 65 years, Dagwood; her parents, George and Ethel Haupt, Sr. and four brothers, Ralph, Buddy, Earl and Bill. Mom's "career" as a 30 year Air Force Officer's wife was one she cherished and loved. Her smile lit up the room and her gentle, caring heart endeared her to all who knew and loved her. Her leadership as a squadron commander's wife was admired during difficult and good times. She was a long time member of PEO Chapter BN, loved playing bridge and was on a bowling league years ago. She loved to entertain, whether it was hosting a neighborhood coffee, parties at the Officer's Club, and the Oro Valley Country Club, she was THE social butterfly. Above all else, her life revolved around her family and her faith. Family reunions gave her so much happiness. Her daughters were her pride and joy, and she was proud of their accomplishments. Grandson, Josh was the apple of her eye and most recently becoming a great-grandma completed her circle of life. Celebration of Life in Tucson will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 1431 W. Magee Rd., Tucson, AZ 85704, located on the SW corner of Magee and La Canada Roads. Dual celebration of she and Dad's life, along with burial, will be held in Roanoke, Virginia later this year. Donations in her memory may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church, 1310 Van Buren St. NW, Roanoke, VA 24017 or to PEO Chapter BN, c/o Louise Conrad, 6320 West Donald Place, Tucson, AZ 85735.The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses on the 3rd and 4th floors of Oro Valley Hospital, Odyssey Hospice, Pastors, Sharon Ragland and Jennifer Hageman of St. Mark's UMC and a very special thank you to Dillis and Linda Ward. Arrangements entrusted to ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 742-7901.

Jean alway impressed me with her cheerful and inquisitive focus on everyone except herself. She was a joy
to share time with, and optimism prevailed at every turn of her conversations. I'll not forget her. Bill Hosmer

Dearest Mom and Dad, I will write this to both of you as I know that you are now together once again. I cannot Thank you enough for all the years of Joy and Love that you brought to Jason and myself. You became my second Mom so many times and taught me so much through your Smile, gentle tough and words of wisdom. Diane and Becky became my sisters and Josh my nephew. You will forever be in my HEART! I LOVE YOU BOTH MORE THAN WORDS CAN SAY.

Diane and Becky, This is a wonderful chance to say something which doesn't adequately express the depth of loyalty and friendship that blessed my life for so many years, starting in 1963 on Okinawa.
Your beloved Dag and Jean brought my wife and I the highest level of leadership and love all at the same time, which lasted throughout the rest of the days we had the pleasure of their company. Scores of contacts which firmed up the understanding and mutual respect are hallmarks of my life on this earth. They are firmly ensconced in my heart and brain, because of their example of genuine friendship and yes, love which can be experienced under such beautiful relationships. They will always have an influence on how I live my life and certainly you two incomparable daughters will continue to give me the inspiration to be a better American. I love you both and thank you for letting me express what I should have expressed more directly and personally when I enjoyed being in the Damewood sphere of love and influence. Bill Hosmer

Jeanie is now our guardian angel still watching over her AF family. She kept many of us informed of the whereabouts of many mutual AF friends. I can remember her many luncheons and bridge parties which she LOVED giving. Diane and Becky, you both were ALWAYS there for both of them to the end...God Bless you for that.I will treasure ALL our memories forever. Shirley (Hurt) Roselle
