John Fogarty Obituary

John Corcoran Fogarty passed away on March 1, 2011, following the death of his beloved wife, Lenore "Leafy" Fogarty who passed on August 18, 2010. His son, John (Jay) Fogarty Jr. and Lynn Fogarty Lampkin, as well as Elisa, Catherine, Joseph and Tiffany, his four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren survive him. John was born January 22, 1924 in St. Paul, Minnesota and graduated high school from St. Thomas Academy, Mendota Heights, Minnesota. He served honorably in World War II in the Philippines as a Captain in the Army and received a Purple Heart for his leadership and service. He then attended the University of Notre Dame receiving his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1949. After graduating Notre Dame, he met the love of his life and they were married in 1950. John then went on to begin his career at Wood Conversion Company, then on to Conwed Corporation and retired as an executive at Weyerhauser in Chicago, IL. John's greatest love in his life was to travel the world with his wife and they spent many days in their second home in Puerto Vallerta, Mexico. He succeeded in creating a travel agency and soon after found that Tucson was the perfect and most desirable place to retire. He and his wife enjoyed playing tennis and golf with their many friends. John was an active and devout Catholic and became a Knight of the 4th degree in the Knights of Columbus Organization. He was named Sir Knight in 2010 as a Knight of the 4th degree which is the highest patriotic degree. John was recognized as a benefactor for many charitable organizations in which he has faith and for that he will always be honored. His love for Jazz music, Frank Sinatra and dancing to timeless tunes will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. As a loquacious man, John enjoyed people, and with a wonderful sense of humor he touched the lives of everyone he met. To young adults around him he was the ultimate mentor; he enjoyed teaching those who were willing to be taught and for that and everything he has done in the community he will be forever recognized. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 11, 2011 at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 North Northern Avenue from 5:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 12, 2011 9:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle, 5150 N. Valley View Road with Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas, D.D presiding. Burial will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery, 3555 N. Oracle Road, Tucson AZ where John will be laid to rest beside his beautiful wife, Leafy.

My prayers go out to Johns family, he was a favorite uncle of mine when I was younger, I visited John and Lenore when they lived in Chicago and babysat for them one summer. I remember a lot of singing and laughter. My deepest sympathy to Lynn and Jay its been a long time since we've seen each other but you will always be in my memories.

Several years ago I had the great honor of meeting the Fogarty's, loyal Mayo Clinic patients and supporters, and will never forget either of their beautiful spirits and love for one another. I visited with John over dinner a week before his passing and he said numerous times while reminiscing about he and Leafy's lives together,"we sure had fun together." I know they are once again having fun together.

I only met John once, to thank him with members of the Faith Gymnastics Team for donating a very needed parallel bar for his "babies". As a former Chicagoan we had things to talk about besides our team. We will miss him.

So many fond memories of spending time as a child visiting Chicago , and them coming to St. Paul .He had a wonderful voice, laugh and presence that always made me feel loved when he was around . I so enjoyed to dance with him in the lead. There was always a grand old time had by all when Bud, Jane, Emily and Steve, Leafy and John got together . I extend my deepest sympathy to you Jay and Lynn and your children I only wish I could be there . My love and prayers are with you now and always. Vicky Dahl
