John HUGHES Obituary

HUGHES, John W., The original John W. Hughes died peacefully of heart failure in Tucson, AZ Tuesday, September 18, 2012 surrounded by his youngest daughter, Mimi Esser. He was 91, born in Lowell, Michigan December 2, 1920. Married to the love of his life, Marion Joyce Crawford of Lansing for 65 years and forever devoted to his one son, John Jr. and three daughters, Cricket, Betsy and Mimi. He was born with a smile and a joke in his pocket and his sense of humor stayed with him till the very end, a gift he passed on to his son, the late filmmaker, John W. Hughes Jr. He was a very smart and consummate salesman, family guy, prankster, grill master, gardener and a real do it yourself kind of man who gave his family the American Dream. His four children, his eight grandchildren and his 12 great-grandchildren ran with it. Arrangements entrusted to ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, adairfuneralhomes.com.

I've been reminiscing about you and Marion a lot lately. You'd be glad you aren't here on the Earth home front right now. 2020 is crazy! Oh how I would love to clink a glass of Chardonnay with you John, play a few hands of rummy, sit outside and admire your rose bushes together... You taught me to find joy in the simple things in life. I'm so grateful! I trust you guys are in the presence of the Lord and enjoying paradise. I love you!

I will never forget you, Mr. Hughes. I'm so lucky to have known you, your beautiful wife Marion, and your darling angel, Mimi. Thank you for all of the wonderful memories... our long talks, gin rummy games, john grisham readings, laughing about your past times, etc. I love you, papa! I'll never stop looking up to you in heaven. Thank you for being you. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who has had the privilege of knowing this remarkable man. -Jeanne

I will always remember John's jovial smile, his twinkling eyes and non-stop humor. I loved listening to him brag about his 4 children and all of his grandchildren, and to all of the great stories he would tell of his youth. Having spent wonderful time with him at dinner parties, weddings, etc., John was always impeccably dressed and a consumate gentleman. I will never forget dancing together at Blue Fin, talking about books, flowers and of course, the love of his life, Marion. He was a constant source of strength and joy to his daughter, Mimi throughout her life and especially in these last few years. John Hughes was a class act, and truly THE original. God Bless all those who knew and loved this wonderful man. With heartfelt condolence, Kirsten
