Kenneth Amsler Obituary

AMSLER, Kenneth E., 81, quietly and unexpectedly passed away at home in Oro Valley, AZ on April 7, 2011. Originally from Albany, NY, "Ken" is survived by the "love of his life," Joan (McCarrick), his wife of 60 years; his children, Sheryl and James and his daughter-in-law, Natalie Amsler. Ken was "Grampa" and "Poppy" to his four grandchildren, Matthew and Alexander Konecky, Morgan and Preston Amsler. Ken was a pharmacist and former owner of Colonie Service Pharmacy in Albany, NY. Blessed with more friends than could ever be counted, he will surely be missed but remembered in the hearts of those whose lives he touched. Ken's favorite phrase: "Laughter is the shortest distance between friends" defines what he practiced each and every day. Memorial Services will be held in Albany and Tucson; dates and times to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer's research or just take a moment of your time to help a friend or neighbor in any way you can in honor of Ken. Arrangements entrusted to ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel (742-7901).

I was very sorry to hear that Ken passed away. He gave me my first job at Colonie "Service" Pharmacy and taught me a lot about customer service, wrapping Russell Stover candy, and driving the Pill Cart. He always kept us on our toes but made it fun at the same time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Joan, Sheryl, and Jim.

So saddened by your loss, Sheryl & Jim. Your dad will surely be missed. I have the fondest memories of growing up with your family at 1 Iris Lane...he was like a second father to me. Always enjoyed his unexpected visits when he drove through the Adirondacks, too! May you find solace in all of the memories you hold dear to your hearts. Fathers are forever loved.

Today the communities of Colonie & Oro Valley lost a true friend, Ken Amsler. To Ken's family I have a ton of fond memories of Ken and the Gang at Colonie Service Pharm on Central Ave. One memory is when working as a young patrol officer I was stopped by a father who needed a script filled for his sick child, I called Ken and he came and opened the store and filled the script for the dad NO CHARGE! THAT IS A MAN WITH CLASS . KEN Rest in peace!
