Leo Esparza Obituary

Leo Esparza 7/3/1928 - 6/2/2011 passed away peacefully with his family at his side. Leo was married for 55 years to his loving wife, Consuelo Trejo Esparza. He is survived by his six children, Nick, Gigi Hinton, Casey (David Pfordt), Sam (Jennifer), Marta Goodwin, Candace (Lisa McFall). Leo was the youngest of a large family born in Cuero, Texas. A self-made man, due to family circumstances, Leo was virtually on his own when he was 12 years old. At 14 he spent nine months in the Navy and was honorably discharged when they discovered his age. He came to Tucson in 1952 and began a 40 year career working for Beaudry Motor Company in sales and management. It was his charismatic personality, sincere warmth and strong work ethic that earned him national and local recognitions from Chrysler Motor Company as Salesman of the Year. Leo loved music and enjoyed singing and performing. Leo's family was the pride of his life including his eight grandchildren, Stephanie, Sarah and Ben Esparza, Michael, Amie and Clare Goodwin and Chaz and Kat Pfordt. He was proud of his Wildcat family, with all of his children attending the University of Arizona. Leo was a Shriner in the Drum and Bugle Core and member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonic. Husband, Father, Friend and Brother, Leo will be deeply missed and remembered daily in our hearts and prayers. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 5, 2011 from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m., Monday, June 6, 2011 at St. Odilia Catholic Church, 7570 N. Paseo Del Norte.

I just found this Looking for my aunt Connie. So sad that two of my favorite Uncle and aunt are gone. I am in the process of moving back to my home town and visiting with my aunt net month. Only to have a phone message that Connie had just past away. My heart and condolence goes out to all "the kids". I hope to see everyone and reminisce the great times with this family.

Just by chance I came across this sad information. I've been working in the middle east, and can't always keep up to date.

I worked with Leo at Beaudry for a while and was very impressed by him as one of the few honorable men in the auto sale business anywhere.

I know how devoted he was to his family. Coincidentally I was in an education class with his daughter Marta at the U of A before I worked at Beaudry. It was obvious that she came from an exemplary background. I occasionally ran into Leo at the El Corral restaurant and we always had a brief chat.

I am very sorry about your loss and the loss to the Tucson community. Leo was truly one of a kind, a very special man.

May he rest in eternal peace.

My sincere condolences to the entire Esparza family. My family has had the pleasure of knowing yours for over twenty years. Any "Esparza family" event wasn't limited to the family: We always felt warmly welcomed, no matter my ASU alumus status. Leo and Connie were the core of this fine group and their values of loving family and friends are an incredible legacy to pass on. God Bless Leo and his family.

I am Leo's older sister and only surviving sibling, Guadalupe (Lupe) Esparza Garza. Growing up, there were six of us in the family: Oldest brother, Manuel, then Geronima (Balderas),me, Avelardo, Maria (Perez) and our baby brother, Leo. He was only 5 when our mother passed away and I always believed that he missed her more than any of us. Before my husband passed away, we visited my baby brother as often as we could, staying with him and Connie at their home. Leo and I would spend hours talking and I would relate my memories of his antics as a small boy. We laughed a lot. When he was still able, we talked on the phone regularly and I miss him dearly. I wish I could have been there for his family during this difficult time, but at 95 traveling has become hard. Know that his family is in my prayers as Leo was always.

I feel like Leo was part of my own family. Over the years I would get my daily updates from Gigi on your family, and became closer to you all through osmosis. While I cannot be there in person to express my sadness, my thoughts and prayers are with you all in spirit. Alan Klein
