Loretta Hagen Obituary

Loretta A. Hagen peacefully passed away March 31, 2011 at her home in Tucson. She was a caring mother, a long-time Tucson resident, an elementary school teacher at Manzo/Mission View schools in TUSD and an active community member. Born in Chicago, Loretta graduated from Lyola University with a major in Latin. In 1945, she exercised her pioneering spirit when her husband Arthur, along with their two children, moved to Tucson. Loretta received her teaching certification from the University of AZ. She was a member of AAUW and an advocate of Merilac. Loretta loved the desert, the warm climate/sunshine in Tucson and became one of its biggest advocates. She had a zest for life, enjoyed the company of other people, was an ardent bridge player, an avid book reader, was always up to taking in the latest movie and loved to travel. Loretta remained active up until her passing away. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie James (and Billy); her son, Bob Hagen (and Sherry); her grandson, Bret Boguski and her many nieces/nephews. She will be sorely missed by her family and all who knew her. A visitation will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N Northern Ave. on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 8650 N. Shannon Road on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Humane Society of Southern AZ.

Mrs. Hagen was my second grade teacher at Manzo. She was one of the people that inspired me throughout my life. I loved and admired her very much. She attended my High School graduation as well as my wedding.
Mrs. Hagen is one of the reasons why I became a teacher. I have been a teacher for 34 years.
Thank You, Mrs. Hagen! May You Rest In Peace.
With much love and affection,
Lorraine Gomez

Loretta and I were very good friends, I very much enjoyed her company. I used to admire how she dressed. She loved clothes & was always buying a new dress. She also had a dog she loved & when he died she had to get another one. We played bridge every week & played at a different house every week where we enjoyed lunch before playing. (former Tucson resident)
