Alice Elaine Gurley

Alice Elaine Gurley 4/26/1934 - 5/1/2014 age 80, of Green Valley, AZ and previously Tucson, AZ died on May 1, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital, Tucson. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Thelma Winegardner; brother, Carl Winegardner; two late husbands, Norman Fulcher and Hugh Metz and daughter, Jena Brown. She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Joe Gurley and daughter, Sabra (Jim) Borst. Elaine grew up in Missouri, married and had two daughters while living in Mississippi. She lived in Missouri and Colorado raising her two daughters as a single parent while working as an accountant for the US Government Civil Service and private sector. She became disabled in 1976, and moved to Arizona, living in Tucson, and Green Valley. Until the time her health no longer allowed, Elaine was a dedicated member and volunteer of the Green Valley Community Church serving as the coordinator of all Sunday service greeters, being a greeter and calling and sending cards to distressed congregation members. She was a very proud, 15 year Lion of the Green Valley La Canoa Lions Club. She will be remembered for her weekly outings for the blind bowlers of Green Valley, gathering glasses for the less fortunate, working at the recycle paper bin, preparing the cabins at Camp Tatiyee and leading numerous fund raising events. Elaine was a woman of personal courage, incredible optimism and wit. She was a warm and loving person who touched the hearts of all. A Celebration Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Green Valley Community Church, 300 W.
