David Spaulding Obituary

David Edwin Spaulding 9/12/1936 - 4/1/2011 Born in Huntington, W. Va and moved to Tucson in 1946. Predeceased by father, Ray C. and mother, Nelle M. Spaulding. Graduate of Tucson Senior High School Class of 1954, and served in the United States Air Force. David joined the Tucson Fire Department in 1959, and retired after 32 years service at the rank of Inspector. He was a member of Local 479 T.F.D., and had a degree in Fire Science from Pima College. David taught Fire Science for Pima College for many years. He was a member of the retiree's association T.F.D., and member on the board of The Last Alarm Foundation. He was known to be a southwestern artist, and his business was Territorial Reflections. His love was racing the American Quarter Horse. He is survived by his loving wife, P. Joyce Spaulding; and children, Mark, Susan, Pamela, Jody, Annie and Kathy; cousin, Jean Stroud; close friends that never judged but showed love, Doug and Judy, Jerry and Jo, Everett, Jack and his angel, Bud and Jim. His remains to be cremated and stored in an urn made by his friend Shane. Remains to be scattered on top of Castle Rock in the Catalina Mts., some left in an urn for wife, P. Joyce...no flowers on a grave or maintenance for family. If I cross your thoughts and you want to talk, just look to Castle Rock and I will hear you. I love you all, Dad. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2011 at Christ Community Church, 7801 E. Kenyon Dr. The Fire Department Honor Guard will be posted and Last Alarm Sounded. A reception will follow from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Fire Fighters Union Hall, 2264 E. Benson Hwy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Last Alarm Foundation... T.F.D. Retirees. Funeral arrangements entrusted to ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.

I am glad to have been Dave's friend and one time co-worker. Dave was my mentor early on in my career as a firefighter and we were together on my first fire in 1974. Always ready to lend a hand with a smile and a "you can do it hoss" encouragement. Sorry to see you go Davey you were a great asset to our community. I am glad your art and your memory will live on!
