Marilynn Parker Obituary

Marilynn Ohman Parker 83, died in Tucson on March 29. Born in Chicago, she spent her youth in Minneapolis living with her mother and grandparents after her father left the family. At 12, her mother was killed in a car accident and she later moved with her grandparents to Houston, TX where she finished high school. At 18 she met and married her beloved "Parker" (Edward M). Their two sons soon arrived while Parker finished his degree at Rice University where he played football and then worked in the oil business in TX and OK. Sons Tommy and Guy played college football too, giving Marilynn a lifelong love of the game. After Parker's death in 1979 she worked for the president of Superior Oil. In 1989 she moved to Tucson and fell in love with the desert. Marilynn was a woman who loved her family, serving in her Presbyterian Church and enjoying her many friends. She served as a president of the Houston Junior Forum, an elder and youth director in the church and was a member of Chapter J in PEO. While in Port Arthur, Marilynn was instrumental in establishing a Youth Club giving young people a safe place to have fun. As director, she hired the now legendary rock group, ZZ Top. Marilynn is survived by sons, Thomas Dalton (Judy) and Guy Edward (Sandy); three grandchildren, Dalton Thomas (Alison), Justin Edward and Jordan Elizabeth and great-grandson Jackson. A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Church, 400 E. University Blvd. 85705. While I only met your mom once or twice, she was certainly a lovely lady, and a cherished member and president of the Houston Junior Forum.
