Reid BREWER Obituary

BREWER, Reid Donald was born on April 16, 1995 in Tucson and passed away, far too young, on August 20, 2017. Called "Peaches" by his closest friends, Reid's youngest years were spent at Tucson Community School before moving onto St. Cyril School. In 2014, Reid graduated from Salpointe Catholic high school. At Salpointe, Reid participated in the renowned Kairos spiritual retreat as both a retreatant and as a leader. Reid was passionate about lacrosse and was a four-year letterman on the Lancer lacrosse team. At the time of his death, Reid was at the University of Arizona and was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Reid loved golf, sailing, snowboarding and kite surfing. Reid was introduced at a young age to kite surfing by his father. To know Reid was to know that he was spontaneous, adventurous and undeniably fun. He was always up for trying something new and doing something different (which usually, but not always, worked out well). Reid was a "firestarter", but with only the best intentions. Reid will always be remembered for his bright smile, his beautiful heart, his unabashed kindness, his magnetic personality, and his empathetic nature. He derived genuine pleasure and satisfaction in his selfless caring for others. The joy and laughter he brought to those he loved will never be forgotten. To a person, those closest to Reid describe him as the most loyal and truest of friends. Reid is finally at rest and will forever be held close within the hearts of those he loved and loved him. Those who loved Reid should hold him, and the memories created with him, in their hearts, minds and spirits. In Reid's memory, each of us should encourage ourselves and one another to value those gifts that make each of us special: the enduring mystery of unique individualism and the extraordinary beauty of the simple human heart. Reid is survived by his parents, Walter Brewer M.D. and Beth Christian Brewer; brother, Christian; sister, Madeline; aunt, Diane Brewer; uncles, Chad Christian, Joe Bushong and Van Christian; cousin, Dillon Christian and dozens of close friends. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Saint Thomas of the Apostle Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Reid D. Brewer'14 scholarship fund which will benefit future Salpointe students with financial needs. The fund can be accessed at www.salpointe.org/reid-brewer-scholarship-fund. The only time that I met Reid was on our trip to Mexico with Beth, Reid, Jennifer Bowen, Ellie, and West Bowen. Those kids had so much fun. We appreciated the hospitality. Dear Walter and Beth,

My heart aches and breaks for you. Jayne and I lost a son many years ago. It was awful and terrible and the sadness and pain still tackle me unexpectedly at times. I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved son. I know that God lives and that my Michael and your Reid live still and we will see our sons again. I pray that the Lord's tender mercies will touch your hearts and bring a small measure of peace and comfort to your breaking hearts.

Our deepest condolences to your family. We had the pleasure of having Reid as a house guest when he came home with Trent before Xmas break. It was the first time I met Reid and the boys came bounding into the house just in time to change and head to my husbands birthday dinner. Reid fit right in. His great smile and energy. Lots of fun conversation and lots of laughing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dr. Brewer, Beth, Christian and Maddy,
My deepest condolences to you all, my heart hurts for you, and no words can express the pain you are feeling.
I have worked with Dr. Brewer for 19 years now. "Reidy" was about 6 years old when I first babysat the kids. Such a cute, sweet yet sometimes mischievous boy who grew into a handsome young man. May you find comfort in each other and may he live on in your fond memories of good times I know you have had together.
Your family has meant so much to me and my family and been there for us in our time of need. If I can do anything for you, please let me know.
God bless and rest in peace.

Our prayers are with the entire Brewer family. Those of us who knew Reid, remember his spontaneity, laughter, and, as the class jester, the memories only a young person can bring to a classroom.

A beautifully written obituary about Reid captures the essence of who he was.

May Reid rest in peace with perpetual light shining upon him.

Dr. and Mrs. Brewer, Maddie, Christian, you all will remain in the school's prayers.
