We got to know Joan late in our lives when I was a Vice Chair of an ABA committee and send to Tucson on a couple of occasions for ABA conferences. Joan was a superb hostess and was a docent at the Desert Sonoran museum. My wife, son and I visited her whenever we were in the Tucson area. She was extremely intelligent and most knowledgeable about the Arizona area after she spent a lot of time in Maryland with Jim her husband before retiring to Arizona. It is only recently that we learned of her passing. It was our privilege to have known her. She is certainly missed by us.

I have known Joan since 1965 when we both worked at CDC. She has been a dear and valued friend since then. I shared adventures with her in Germany,
DC area, Austin and Tucson. She will be missed.
