REIDY, Joyce G., 80, died peacefully at home with family on April 8, 2011. She is survived by her husband of nearly 57 years, Daniel Reidy; sisters, Susan Howard and Patricia Anand and brother, Richard Glover; children, Stephen, Michael, Thomas, Rebecca Mashburn, John and Christopher; grandchildren, Rachael Rhodes, Jennifer Johnson, Karen Steffin, Sarah and Hannah Mashburn and Angelica, James, Christina, Stephanie, Aaron and Katarina Reidy; great-grandchildren, William and Seth Rhodes and Chloe and Carson Johnson. As a teacher for 49 years, she inspired thousands of students, mainly at Washington School in Prescott and Smith, Bonillas and St. Cyril's elementary schools and Pima County Adult Education in Tucson. She retired in 2001 from Pima Community College but continued as a substitute teacher of immigrants and refugees until last month. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Our Mother of Sorrows Church, 1800 S. Kolb Road. I'm so sorry to hear of Aunt Joyce's passing. I was just thinking about calling to catch up, so I Googled to check her number -- and found her obituary. :(

I have fond memories of living with you all in the summer of '72, and though I wasn't in touch often I always appreciated talking to Aunt Joyce. I'll miss her comforting voice.

My profound condolences to all of you: Steve, Mike, Tom, Becky, John, Chris, and of course Uncle Dan.

I'd like to stay in touch. If any of you would like to drop me a line, I'm at [email protected].

Dear Dan & Family

We continue to pray for Joyce and the Reidy family here in Tucson. She is in our Parish book of prayers. Her anniversary brought forth many pleasant memories...our trip to the wine country, and the Barbershop convention in Salt Lake City. So many wonderful times together.

Mom,

We're thinking of you. Your passing was yesterday last year. This year it fell so appropriately on Easter Sunday. Dad and Becky sponsored an Easter Sunrise Service for you with Easter Lilies that you loved so much at the Poor Clare Monastery in Travelers Rest. Clare and I were thinking of you too, I made lamb (your fav) We are sorry that you weren't able to make it to the wedding but we know you were still there. We lit a candle in your honor to the Blessed Virgin Mary after our vows, everyone knew it was because of you. We thought of You and your mother Doris when we visited Denali for our honeymoon. We know how much you both loved it there too! Katarina sends her love too, spoke with her Easter. She's getting her permit to drive soon, growing up so fast. Eternal Peace and Resurrection on the Last Day mother, missing you, Love Michael & Clare & Katarina. Easter 2012

One of my earliest childhood memories of my mother was sitting next to her on the piano bench in our front living room with the sunlight coming through our two yellow chapel glass windows on either side of our front door and my mom gently but firmly coaching me through my piano lesson for that week when I was just 5 years old and all my neighborhood friends would be out in the street playing kickball or something and I would have to practice my piano lesson for an hour every day.My mother was only in her early thirties at the time, but my piano instructor was an 80 year old grouchy retired nun who didnt like children very much, and was even less cordial to those who didn't have their piano lesson down perfectly. When we made a mistake, the nun would rap our nuckles with a wooden yardstick until we got it right. My mother, on the other hand, took the flies to honey approach instead to motivate me. She would give me oreos and a glass of cold milk, which was a real treat in those days growing up with 4 brothers and a sister. But her gentle encouragement and persistance gave me a keen sense of understanding and enjoyment of music, and without that patience, persistance, and kind motivation, I would not have the love and appreciation for music that I have to this day. Every time I hear a song on the piano, I think of you, mom, and how much you loved me and sacrificed your time, energy, and money to give me piano lessons so I would share your love and appreciation for music...Thank you, mom...I love and miss you more every day...Your # 3 son Tom

Dan, Joe and I were so saddened to learn of Joyce's passing. When we saw her in December she was so positive, glowing in fact. But then, Joyce always glowed, she was a beautiful woman, much admired by us and many, many others. May Our Lord give you all peace and comfort in the days and nights ahead. Our prayers are with you and your entire beautiful family. Love, Joe and Rachel Ingegneri

Dear Dan and family,

I was so sorry to hear about Joyce's passing, and I was unable to attend her mass because of a conflict yesterday. However, not only did Joyce inspire students she inspired TEACHERS. In 1973 I was a brand new graduate of St. Mary's Notre Dame and Joyce mentored me in my very first teaching job at St. Cyril's. I would have never made it without her help, encouragement and support!!!! She was always available and taught me the essential balance in teaching between building relationships with kids and stucture. I was so inspired by her knowledge of teaching reading that I immediately attended UA and received my Masters Degree in Reading. She was a professional and friend.

I owe her so much for my success today. Please count me as one of her greatest fans, and her passing has given me a special opportunity to reflect back and cherish the time I learned at the feet of this Master Teacher.

My regards,

Susie Larkin Heintz
