Hey David,
I just got an email that said you´ve been gone 10 years. I remember you died shortly after my dad did. It´s been so long but I still think about you. You were a great counselor and friend. I always considered you a friend because you helped me so much and you cared about others and it really showed. I have had many therapy sessions since yours but none were like yours. You were a really good person and I wish you were still here.

I just returned to Tucson after many years away, and only today did I learn of David's death. He and I were members of the same Toastmasters club, so I saw him weekly for many years. David had a rare combination of determination and gentleness that made him a powerful force for good. He could be soberly focused on a problem and, in an instant, laugh heartily at a wry comment. I witnessed his professional skills in action as he dealt with an unruly individual, and I will never forget the look of calm as he was suddenly thrust into a volatile and threatening situation. It was a remarkable moment and one that demonstrated to me a very remarkable man.

Trying to sort issues and answers from home life, Not one day goes by thinking of Dave. What would he say? How his caring ways calm the wave of worries. I miss him dearly.

David Gooden was the most kindhearted, thorough, thoughtful man. I could never thank him enough for his guidance when I needed it. It has been years since I've seen him and was curious to find out where his career had taken him. I'm so sorry to find out that he has passed away. Taken far too soon. May God bless him. Thank you David. You truly were and now are an angel.

I have just now discovered the terrible news. I moved away and was just about to message Dave through my old email account when I discovered the news he had passed. He was such an incredible man. I admired him, he was so smart, compassionate, and just full of love. I was very young when I first saw him for my OCD. I didn't have the money or transportation to schedule appointments. Dave was so generous and kind hearted that he worked with me through email. He improved my life so incredibly much and I will be forever grateful for his generosity. It was clear that did his job simply and truly to help people. He was one of the good ones and I would just like his family to know how much he's touched my life and highly I think of him.

I can't hold back the tears as I read all these wonderful tributes for such a wonderful person. Our family was only fortunate enough to know Dave for a very short time. What he did for our son in learning how to live with and fight back his ocd will last a lifetime. He had an impact on our son like no other. I only wish there had been more time to learn more of Dave's skills. We will never forget what you did for us Dave, you will always be a part of us. I can't thank you enough for sharing your time and your talents with us these last several months. Our sincere condolences to the family. Your Husband, father, uncle, brother, grandfather...was an absolutely amazing man. I'm not sure what path we will take from here, but you will always be in our hearts Dave. Thank You. "D.T.O."

My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family, and everyone who was fortunate enough to cross paths with Dave, as now there is a tremendous void in the lives of so many that he touched.
He was my therapist since 2011, and he changed my life. He taught me how to "push back" at my OCD and provided me with a toolbox that I use every day. I will cherish the moments I spent with him. The OCD Conference in San Diego stands out as one of the most memorable experiences I've ever had in my life, and I'm so glad I could share that moment with Dave. He may be gone, but he will be with me every day for the rest of my life, as my battle with OCD continues and I draw upon the wisdom, guidance, and tools he taught me these past 3 years.

I know from working with David for years that he was not only a kind, gentle person with a great sense of humor, he was doggedly passionate about issues such as social justice. He cared deeply about the injustices of this world. And, just as important, was active in doing what he could to improve it. David, you will be missed by many. Condolences from the Nicholson family to the Gooden family.
