George BIDWELL Obituary

BIDWELL, George Dawson passed away October 30, 2016 after yearlong complications from a severe lung infection. He was born October 1, 1932 in Pittston, PA to Ralph and Louisa Bidwell. He grew up in West Pittston, which is just across the Susquehanna River from Pittston. He served in the United States Army from 1950 - 1952. He moved to Tucson in 1957, and in 1962 started his career at Hughes Aircraft Company, taking early retirement in 1989. However, retirement was not really in George's vocabulary. He started a one-person machine shop that quickly grew into G & L Enterprises and was known for its precision machining for both aerospace and commercial industries. He and his wife, Louise, sold the business in 2008, and she finally convinced him to really retire at the age of 76. They chose Saddlebrooke for their next phase of life and moved there in 2009. George was active in two men's nine-hole golf leagues while continuing to be an avid organic gardener in their back yard. He was most proud of his work with the Saddlebrooke Troop Support (STS) organization and spent the last two years of his life as its President. He was predeceased by his parents and former wife, Marion, the mother of his children. He is survived by his wife of 34 years Louise; brother, Ralph Bidwell as well as three children, Cathy Bailey, George L. Bidwell and Eugene Bidwell (Heather) as well as two grandchildren, (Catina Jordan and Katelynn Bidwell) and two great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 20, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the Mesquite Grill in Saddlebrooke (38759 Mountain View Blvd., Saddlebrooke, 85739). If you wish, you may make a donation in George's memory to Saddlebrooke Troop Support via its website www.saddlebrooke-troop-support.com or may send your check to Bob Sogn, STS Treasurer, 38873 S Rock Wood Dr., Tucson, AZ 85739. Arrangements by DESERT SUNSET.

Louise, I have only now become aware of George's passing. I just knew George from working with him during the "Hughes" years. For some reason George was one of those individuals that I just couldn't forget over the years, he just made that kind of impression. I am very saddened to learn of the passing of such a great guy. So sorry for your loss. Bill Seiss

Louise, my condolences to you and your family at the passing of our dear friend George. He had been a gentleman and friend to my father Camiel Albrecht whom he worked along side for many years at Hughes Aircraft and later on at his company. My family cherished his friendship very much over the years welcoming him to our home and at other get togethers of our families. I thank him for the friendship and comradery he showed my father as it was so terrific to see him and my father putting their great minds together to solve a design/manufacturing problem. May the Lord be with the family at this sad time giving them the healing and strength they need. Thank you George from the Albrecht family.
