I was so beyond lucky to have Dewey as my grandfather. His dry wit, kindness, and many talents made him a true joy to be around. His carving abilities knew no bounds, his whistling was as sweet as song birds', and his storytelling rivaled America's best authors, drawing listeners into his days working on the trains, his service as a belly gunner, or that one time as a border patrol agent when he was told there was an exceptional bounty on his head. Dewey taught me to count to ten in Spanish before I could do so in English and always encouraged me to get beyond my basic Spanish abilities. He taught me how to skin a fish and play gin rummy. He was an incredibly devoted husband to my grandmother, showcasing how gentle a real man can be. Dewey was a special man, his absence will continue to be felt. Love you so much, Dewster.

We were truly blessed when Dewey came into all our lives! He was an amazing human being in every way - father to Dennis, husband to Judy, stepfather to her three sons, father-in-law to their wives (I so love this man), grandfather to all our children, great grandfather, friend to many (including all of us), story teller, wood carver and artist, lover of Country Western music and dancing, totally dedicated to all those he cared about, comfortable in doing his "wifely duties" with grace, proud, and rightly so, of his service in WWII, and so very much more! Proud but humble, strong without needing affirmation, protective of all that was close to his heart! He blessed us always❤ I will miss Dewey every day the rest of my life and am thankful we were FAMILY❤

I met Dewey just about 3 years ago on the street. We would walk together often
I had coffee and goodies with him every 2-3 weeks for the past year.
Always enjoyed our chats and always came away feeling uplifted.
Seeing his magnificent carvings up close was
a very FINE experience.
He was a JOY for me to know in his last years of life. I really miss him.

I am so sorry to hear of Gerald's passing. Jesus wept after the death of his friend Lazarus. John 11:35. We mourn along with you. May the God who binds up the brokenhearted and comforts all who mourn sustain and surround you, until you meet again, Psalm 147:3.
