Gregory Shane "Greg" GATEWOOD

1956 - 2016

GATEWOOD, Gregory "Greg" Shane was called to his heavenly home on December 18, 2016 after battling cancer for seven months. Greg was born in Sioux City, Iowa on September 5, 1956. He moved to Tucson, Arizona with his mother and brother, Brian, in 1967. He graduated from Westward High School in Mesa, Arizona and went on to play college basketball at Mesa Community College and at Northern Arizona University. He married Carol A. Gatewood (Grasma) on August 18, 1985 in Flagstaff, Arizona. At the time of his death, Greg worked for Bingham Equipment Company. He loved sales, meeting new people and working with the staff. Greg is survived by his wife, Carol; two sons, Tyler (wife Mianna), Kyle and four grandchildren, Breana, Kaylee, Jaylee and Kobe. He is also survived by his loving parents, Patricia and Creighton Solomon; his brothers, Brian and Brent Gatewood; his uncle, Michael DeLap; numerous cousins and many dear friends. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Ronald A. Gatewood; his uncles, Darrell Gatewood and Donald DeLap and an aunt, Connie Stoll. Greg was a gentle giant who loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed all sports especially basketball, as well as going to the lake, hunting and fishing, Watching movies and reading. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church and Academy. Reverend David Pavesic will be officiating. A Celebration of Life will follow at 4:30 p.m. at the Continental Ranch Community Center. Arrangements are being handled by DESERT SUNSET FUNERAL HOME.
