Charles Leslie JACOBUS

JACOBUS, Charles Leslie 88, of Tucson passed away peacefully on October 21, 2017, surrounded by his family. Born September 21, 1929, to Leslie and Emma Jacobus of Bridgeport, CT, Charlie proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, he joined Bridgeport's United Illuminating Co. and worked his way from meter reader to management. In 1965, Charlie moved his family to Nogales to become Assistant Manager of Citizens Utilities Co., a post he held until retirement in 1993. He subsequently volunteered with Arizona DES in the Division of Developmental Disabilities, building and adapting toys for children with special needs. Charlie was an avid sportsman and enjoyed archery, golf, running, and cycling, and he volunteered with El Tour de Tucson course support for several years. He loved UA sports, whose teams undoubtedly benefited from the years of advice he yelled at his television. Charlie was a talented artist and photographer, and a gifted woodworker; he could build or repair anything or was always willing to try. Charlie had a deep commitment to community service and will be remembered by many for his thoughtful, generous spirit. Preceded in death by son, Mike Jacobus, Charlie is survived by Janet, his wife of 53 years; daughters, Sandy Wilkins (Scott Sherman) of Peoria, Nancy Simmons of Tucson, Cathy Jacobus (Peter Griffiths) of Lakewood, CO; son, Jim Jacobus (Hope) of Sequim, WA; grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Per his wishes, no service is planned. Donations in Charlie's memory may be made to The Humane Society of Southern Arizona or Handmaker Assisted Living, Tucson.
