Douglass Scott BARR

BARR, Douglass Scott died on Sunday, April 9, 2017 in Oro Valley, Arizona at the age of sixty-seven. Scott is survived by his wife, Gail; father, Leon; sister, Robbie; children, John and Heather; and grandchildren, Grant and Colin. Scott earned degrees in metallurgical and chemical engineering from the University of Idaho and a master's degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno. After a brief tour in the Army, he began a forty year career in the mining industry which took him to diverse parts of the globe, including Australia, Peru, Indonesia, Ghana, Uzbekistan, Mongolia and the Arctic. He held positions with Independence Mining, Newmont Mining, and Golden Star Resources, and served on the board of directors of Seabridge Gold and Pershing Gold. He was an active member of Prairie Unitarian Universalist Church, served as a Boy Scouts of America troop leader, was an avid golfer and loved to cook. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the Catalina Vista, 14055 Del Webb Blvd., Oro Valley, AZ 85755.
