Hazel WOLKIN Obituary

WOLKIN, Hazel Mae 1919 - 2016 Hazel Mae Wolkin nee Brogan was born on June 12, 1919 in Thornton, IA. the youngest of four children. She graduated from Thornton, High School in 1936, and as an RN from Grinnell College and specialized in treating babies with cleft palates. Hazel married Dr. Julius Wolkin in Iowa City as he was in residency at the U of Iowa, later becoming a Neurosurgeon. Hazel volunteered at numerous civic and charitable organizations for many years in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Her ongoing charity work was a source of great pride to her husband and four sons. Hazel and Julius retired to Tucson, in 1981. Hazel was preceded in death by Julius in 1994 and by her brothers, Irvin, Howard and sister, Eleanor. She is survived by sons, David (Amy) of Santa Clara, CA; Robert (children, Beck and Aaron, J.J. (deceased), Pete, Alissa, Michael) of Tucson; Philip (Nancy) of Mendocino, CA and Steven (Connie, daughters, Lindsey, Allison) of Cleveland, OH. Hazel died peacefully in her sleep of natural causes on October 30, 2016 at 97 years young. Her ashes will be interred beside her husband in a simple ceremony on Sunday, June 11, 2017 in the family plot at the Thornton, IA cemetery. All are welcome. Arrangements by DESERT ROSE HEATHER MORTUARY.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there is a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
