Micheal ARGRAVES Obituary

ARGRAVES, Micheal James 60, of Tucson, went to be with our Lord Jesus on December 23, 2016. His journey began in Fort Fairfield, Maine on December 1, 1956, the son of Harold David and Lillian Louise (Gagnon) Argraves. Mike met the love of his life, Randy Lynn Sturgeon in 1976. They were married on May 17, 1980. They began their family three years later with one amazing and remarkable son, Justin. Mike and Randy loved Disneyland and Kauai. They honeymooned at Disneyland and visited 30 times over the next 36 years. He began coaching in 1984 and continued to coach basketball, softball, volleyball, and track for 32 years. Mike was a mentor and friend across generations of Tucson students. He also touched many lives as an adaptive physical education teacher. Mike loved God and his family, especially his new granddaughter, Blakely Faith, with his whole heart and soul. He also loved coaching, the Red Sox, Steelers, and Celtics. He never missed an opportunity to say "God Bless You" to anyone he came in contact with. Mike was a member of Pantano Christian Church. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Randy; son, Justin; daughter-in-law, Lindsey; granddaughter, Blakely Faith; brothers, David (wife, Beverly), Mark (wife, Sharon), and Edward (wife, Ruth); and his faithful companion, his dog, Boston. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Lillian. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the Cholla High School Gymnasium, 2001 W Starr Pass Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85713. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a college fund for Mike's granddaughter, Blakely Faith, at Chase Bank #3306190090. Arrangements entrusted to DESERT ROSE HEATHER CREMATION AND BURIAL.

Had not seen Mike since the early 80's but will never forget what a Great Man he was. Played a lot of basketball with him and he was the best range shooter I ever played with. Mike was always thoughtful of others and there if you needed him. Never heard him say a negative thing about anyone. Hurt my heart to hear of his passing. Sorry for your loss Randy and pray that God will give you and your family peace and strength daily.

I first met Mike when I was a teenager and he and Randy were dating. I looked up to them as that ideal in-love couple. Mike was such a nice guy! I've thought about you both through the years and sent silent well-wishes your way. So sad to hear about Mike. What a loss...and what wonderful life lived, impacting so many young athletes and others along the way. Hugs and love to you, Randy. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I remember all the fun times we had, playing basketball, going to A mountain, hanging out. He was so smooth in sports, our go to guy. He was a friend to everyone he met. Great smile. I miss him and I haven't seen him in over 30 years. Knowing he isn't here hurts a lot. Randy, I am so sorry for your loss. I am glad to have known a man like him.

Randy:
I was just watching the news today and saw a clip about Mike on the sports report. My sympathies to you and your son. Strange as I just happen to drive down 35th st today and thought about him when I saw the house- that was before I even knew! I just read all of the entries in the guest book and it is wonderful to know how loved he was and what a difference he made in so many young lives. Very heartwarming. So wonderful to know he was a believer and said "God Bless You" to everyone, I love that! My prayers to you tonight.

I knew Mike when he was a teacher and coach at Cholla HS and I was an assistant principal. What I will remember most, of course, is Mike coaching the girls basketball team. He made a lasting imprint on all of their lives, not just because of his coaching, although he had many winning teams, but more because of his determination to give them the best education and character development that they would carry with them for the rest of their lives. Mike was an inspiration and a dear, sweet man. I will miss him.

Coach Mike you taught us to be more than a team, you taught us to be a family. Any problems or feuds we had were left at the door. Although, I only played basketball a year and 4 years with volleyball you had a great impact on my life, especially my high school years. It was always easy to talk to you. You never judged us and you were supportive. I wasn't the best player but you gave me a chance. You told me that everyone in the family has a job, my job was to cheer and keep our spirits up. You will truly be missed until we meet again Coach Mike I love you.

I grew up with Mike in a fun neighborhood by the Davis Monthan AFB, before internet. I did not keep in touch with Mike, I moved to Idaho in 1996. I recently reconnected with Mike on Facebook. His sweet disposition had not changed. I was not surprise to see what a great Mentor/coach he was to so many youth. His smile has not changed. My heart goes out to his family.

Although I knew Mike for only a few years, he made it seem as though he had been my friend for life. He always shook my hand and gave me a hug when he saw me on the THS sidelines and he was ever present in his support of Justin and THS football. I will miss seeing on the sidelines next season my friend.

Mike....I never imagined this day. I cant describe the sadness that I feel. Our families have been friends for years. I remember the days at Palo Verde and a brief time at Pima where our priority was ditching class. You always had a laugh to share. 1980 brought stabilization to the group when Danny, you and I all got married. I left town shortly after that and didnt get to enjoy a day to day time with anyone anymore but evertime I came home, and saw everone I felt welcome. You and Randi were always the perfect couple and the most generous of hearts. Thank you for your friendship and your honest caring for our family. I know you are in heaven and reunited with your mom and dad, but we will miss you dearly. All my love and thoughts for you Randi and Justin and your precious little one.

Coach, where do I begin... From meeting you when you where a monitor at school to being my basketball coach at Cholla, you became not only my friend, but my mentor! You always had our best interest at heart and you never gave up on us! You were there like a parent to a lot of us to push us to strive and to our best at whatever came our way! It was a blessing to know that your beautiful wife, my supervisor Randy, and your son Justin will have many beautiful memories to share of ONE OF THE GREATEST MEN I KNOW! You have touched so many lives Coach! Thank you God for bringing such an amazing soul into my life to help encourage and direct me and help me to become the strong person that I am today! We love you COACH! May you Rest In Paradise❤❤
