I just heard the news a year later but was very touched as I remember "Mr. Janesky" from my high school days in Bethel. One of the rare individuals who helped make learning fun in all areas of life. He also gave that extra for all his students, friends, and family. He will be missed.

Time flies by and it seems like it was just yesterday that we were all together for Christmas in Arizona enjoying your company. Fast forward a little more than a year and now we share special memories of when you were with us. I know you're with me everyday because of the sounds of the train whistles waking me each morning. We are all fine but miss you so much.

It's hard to believe that a year has gone by since you left us. It's not an anniversary that I like to celebrate. Instead I'll think every year of the scholarship that is given to a senior at Bethel High in your honor. It's a way to keep you love of science and help that you always gave to your students.Oddly enough, it will be presented on my birthday, May 31 by Tracy. It seems to be fitting that we all are involved to keep your memory alive. So as another year starts without you, I still wish we could be together but will remember all the good times we had. I love and miss you.

Dear Pop,
We all miss you so much. Everbody is doing fine. I am a freshman in high school and Patrick is a junior in collage. My mom has been to all the states accept one. She and nan are going to Hawaii this summer. When they come back all of us are coming out to see you. The best memory that i have of you is you talking about your train all the time and of course watching your Shrek and Donkey. I do watch Shrek sometimes and i also think of you. It is coming up on a year since you passed and we still miss you a lot whenever we hear a train whistle we will also think of you and while watching Shrek movies.

The past holiday season has been good but still I wish you were with us. The next year, 2012, will be the first one without you and one of many "firsts" that I experienced this past year. Chris and Taryn gave me a locket with your picture in it and says "Forever in my Heart" and that says it all. I hope your in peace now and I will always love you.

Merry Christmas Dad-
We were watching "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" last night and remembered the very first time we watched it in the apartments as a family and were sad when the half hour was up because we would need to wait another whole year before we could see it again!! Times have certainly changed. You truly were our family's Grinch with a heart bigger than anyone else's. On this Christmas Eve, I'll bring home, from church, the light of a candle just for you.-Love Your daughter,

Dear Janesky Family: Mr.J was a teacher who encouraged his students to believe in themselves in a way that not all teachers do. He had a way of giving you a push but in a tender way. I was very sorry to read on FB that he had passed away. May the love and memories you shared with him help you each and everyday.

Hi Dad-
I was travelling back from Maine yesterday on your birthday from a Mimio conference. Yes, I finally made it to Maine!! I attached a picture. When we left, they gave us bagged lunches to take with us on the road. I knew you were with me in spirit because when I opened my lunch, in there sat 2 cookies, a chocolate chip and a macadamia nut, your two favorites! Happy birthday.

For years I have tried "hunting" down "J-bud", through Facebook and other friends. I had heard that he settled in AZ, amazingly close to where I settled in Colorado. I asked an old friend about Mr. J just yesterday, and learned the news of his recent passing. I had many good teachers at BHS, but he was the one that I remember the most. He inpired me to no end! My science brain was slow, and because I tried....he went above and beyond as a teacher...ALWAYS there to give me some extra help after school. I became a teacher, and one thing that I am committed to is being there for my kids, until all hours, because he set such a great example! What a significant role model in my life! Learning through his obit, about the things that he loved....inspires me again. I never knew that we had so much in commom...the love of the southwest, and to travel....now I can not just talk about adventures, I have to live them...because J bud would say "go for it!" What a gift! I am deeply sorry for your loss. I know the time and energy that goes in to teaching..thank you for sharing Mr. Janesky with soooo many children! He has been missed for soooo many years, thought about more often then he will ever know, and he made an impact! My condolences. Robin NeJame "88

Dear Janesky Family: Mr. Janesky, as we call him, is the teacher that had the greatest positive impact on our lives. At BHS, when he became our class advisor, little did he know how much time and effort he would invest in the class of 1977. Mrs. J: also my teaching mentor...thank you for sharing your time and family(Hi kids...loved hearing about you each Christmas!). We miss you all. We are so sad, but rejoice in Mr. Janesky's life and legacy. With love, thanks and prayers, Randy and Ann Marie (Sullivan) Priolo.

Happy Father's Day Dad-
I wish I could be there in Tucson to come visit you overlooking those beautiful mountains but I can't because our school year hasn't ended yet! So, this is the next best thing. Our father's days didn't have many breakfasts in bed but lots of waffles and homemade gifts made with love to you (shirts, clay pots, cards, TIES and more recently chocolate chip cookies sent from Connecticut to you in AZ in snappy little coolers!.) One of my most memorable gits to you was the little yellow book I made in elementary school that had all the things I loved about my dad inside it, complete with pictures and one line sentences of my thoughts, all done in crayon of course! I was so proud of my accomplishment and when you opened it and read the book back to me, that had to be one of the best moments ever. We have had so many of those wonderful and amazing moments and I'll treasure them always. I miss you and love you and know that you're here in spirit with me in New Milford on this day because we have the most beautiful roses blooming on that bush you planted way back. They have never been so full like they are on this Father's Day.
With all my love,
Tracy

To Mr Janesky's family: Mr Janesky made a significant impact in my life. Mr Janesky was one of those special educators that can inspire, befriend and convey the fun of learning science. Dear Jackie and family,
Please accept our heart felt sympathies on your great loss. This would be the weekend that Joe and I would make the long trek to New Milford from Ridgefield. It seemed to take forever. Now it only takes minutes on "super 7" Your kindness and generousity for those memorable fun times we shared on Memorial Day will never be forgotten. Thank you for sharing the pictures and letting us see all of those happy times you and Al shared with your family. I can only wish that we had the chance to do some of those things before Joe had his strokes. Al will be missed by all of you and his memory will be kept in our hearts forever. Dear Pop,
You were like a second grandfather to me. I have such fond memories from when I was a child and coming over to your house with Michelle. You would always captivate us with your stories of your world travels, showing us pictures of Egypt and giving us little things you collected along the way. You gave us the ability to dream big and reach for the stars and know that nothing was/is ever out of reach. It was truly an honor to get to be a part of your life. You were a great man who will be missed by all.

Mr. Janesky is the reason I have my love for the sciences especially animals. He brought the best out in me with his gentle and quite encouragement. I was allowed to bring Max the classroom iguana home for the summer b/c of Mr. J. This was an honor b/c he thought I was responsible enough to take care of him. He will always be one of my favorite teachers as I'm sure many other students will agree. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Vanessa Barzetti Hawley Class of 1971

Pop, you are truely one of a kind! Some of your students got to learn from you for a year, but I was lucky enough to learn from you for 23 years. You were always ready to listen to anyone, a friend or a stranger, who had something to say. Through that I learned kindess. You gave all that you could, and asked nothing in return. You dedicated so many years to teaching, and then retired only to take on several volunteering positions. Through that I learned selflessness and the value of giving. Your dedication, and love for Nan was evident to anyone who knew you. Through that I learned the value of passion and love. And lastly, you were always willing to play with me and all the other grandkids (and any kid who asked). I remember in middle school I wanted to try out for vollyball, so you not only bought me a vollyball, but you taught me how to bump, set, and spike a ball. You were so proud of me when I made the "A" team. You saw that I had a goal and you helped me reach it. Through that I learned to never give up on myself. Pop, you have taught me more than I could possibly describe. I will carry you with me for the rest of my life. I will tell Madi all about you! Even though I wish you could be here on Earth to watch her grow up, I know that you are in Heaven watching from above. I know that you will help me along the way. Thank you for being a role model, a friend, a teacher, and a grandfather. I love you and I look forward to the day that I meet you in Heaven and get one of those warm Pop hugs. Until then, I miss you greatly!
With all my heart,
Michelle

The range of Bethel High School graduating classes represented in these messages is a fitting tribute to the lives touched by Mr. Janesky in his remarkable career. The fact that so many of the messages still refer to him as "MR. Janesky" or "MR. J" is an indication of the respect he earned among those he taught. He was to the sciences what the fictional "Mr. Holland" was to music. May God bless him and those he loved and who loved him.

When we were in college Al, Don, and I were the three musketeers. We were constantly in possession of a football and often played "touch" with our wider circle of friends. Three things remind me of AL; Y. A. Tittle (his football hero), Yogi Bear (who tickled his fancy), and astronomy (a passion of his at that time). Good times and good memories at Danbury State College. When I later joined the faculty there I often head good things about Mr. Janesky at Bethel High School.
Rest in peace old friend.

It is with deep sadness that I read about Al's passing. I got to know him when I taught science at BMS. I enjoyed each moment with him and we often chatted about our philosophy of education and we seemed to share much.

Mr.Janesky was not only my teacher back in 1990-1992, but he was someone whom I looked up to. I was an average student who always just got by, but he made me love science. He had such a fun way of teaching, a way that made you enjoy learning and due to his way, you would remember and now have fond memories of his classes. More importantly, helped me get through a very difficult time in my teenage years. His listening ear and understanding words of advice got me passed some of what I thought were days that would never end. For those words and listening ear, I am thankful more than he would ever know. Mrs. J, I am thinking of you and send you my prayers. May you find peach and be surrounded by family and friends and know that the people who's life Mr.J touched are all with you in thought.

Dear Pop,
There are so many things I wanted to say to you before you passed. How are we going to spend our lives without you here with us? We will have to help each other. Whenever I hear a train whistle, I will always think of you. There are so many memories that all of us will always have, but the 3 that I remember most are when you and Nan came out to Connecticut when I was little. I used to put on your reading glasses and pretend I was you, and another time I went shopping for a cactus. You told me to choose this one over that one. You knew what was best. Lastly, you came to Connecticut again. I used to make chicken with my mom then I'd go up to the guest room and tell you it's time to eat dinner. You'd ask who made this and I said I did. You always said it was good. We all promise to take good care of Nan when we come to visit.

Dear Jackie and family,
The sorrow and grief that is now in your hearts cannot be understood by anyone. It has been so difficult for all of you over the past months to experience the emotional toil of seeing your dearest loved one travel on his journey home. He is resting now in peace, in Jesus arms. His journey is complete.
Words cannot express my gratitude as Al welcomed Jim as a son when he and Tracy married and we were invited into your loving family. I will miss the spirited conversations, descriptions of your many travels and sharing family events and memories especially those of our wonderful grandchildren.
There will be a void in our future gatherings but Al will be with us and we will remember all of the joyous occasions. He was a wonderful person and friend. I will miss him dearly.

If you could see all my surroundings,
and see the sights I see,
If you could hear what I am hearing,
angels singing eternally,
If you knew the one I'm hugging,
as He gently smiles at me,
If you knew where I am resting,
You would not cry for me.
You see, now I live with Jesus,
No other place I'd rather be,
For God, his love and forgiveness,
was waiting patiently.
So if you shed a tear,
please, don't shed a tear for me.
Because if you could see where I live,
you would not cry for me.

He had time for everybody, and the children just loved being around "Al" He clearly was the Pied Piper of Countryside Heights...One the kindest and gentleness people God has ever made and we were blessed to have spent the past 18 years in his presence. My memories of Al will be forever lasting and all the good times we had to going to and suffering thru UA football games, the political discussions, the conspiracy theories that he did not believe in, all made Al so special. A brillant light that we had the good fortune of knowing.
Right now he is in heaven and I can see him surrounded by children and himplaying with all them and being the great teacher that he will always be.
Love...Bill Leith
