I knew Mr. Cohen when I was a student at Ford Elementary. I left in the 80's but have never forgotten Mr. Cohen, he always encouraged me.

I have just learned of Chuck's death. I retired at the same time as Chuck and our retirement Party was for both of us. Although I am older than Chuck I considered him a true friend. His jokes, his poems, and the wonderful way he had with the school children are unforgetable memories I have of Chuck. My best wishes and sincerest condolences to Chuck's wife and children. My darling husband has been gone now for just over 5 months. Living in the wake of his passing has been a life altering experience to say the least. Our love and devotion to each other for over 25 years never wavered, even during the most challenging of times. As the years passed and our lives changed I grew to respect and appreciate him even more. He was a brave and selfless man who thought of others before he ever thought of himself. He enjoyed the simple things in life and took pleasure in making me happy. We were certainly blessed with having the opportunity to share our lives together for as long as we did. We accomplished so much as a couple and experienced what life had to offer. We traveled the world enjoying one adventure at a time. I treasure every picture and every memory because they are a reflection of our life together. He valued family, friends and his faith above all else in life.
My beloved was many things to many people. It seems that everyone who was fortunate enough to have crossed his path now has a "Chuck" story or two to remember him by. He was blind to race, religion, or socio-economis status, thus his circle of friends was vast and far reaching. I feel blessed and honored to have been his wife and best friend all these years. He was certainly a gift in my life. I now mourn him and grieve my loss. I miss the life we built together, one moment at a time. I cherish the memories I have of my beloved, best friend, mentor, and poet. He was truly an amazing and unique man who knew how to make me laugh.

Rest well my love and save a place for me.

I knew Mr. Cohen when I was a student at Ford Elementary. I'm 25 years old now and becoming a librarian myself. I still remember Mr. Cohen reading us Shel Silverstein poems.

July 5, 2011

I just recently learned of Chuck's transition. My profound sympathy to all his family.

I met Chuck through Marylin and Sid when the Teutebergs first moved to Tucson in 1969. Chuck and I became close friends when we both entered the single life. Chuck was the bright spot who pulled me through and made me laugh again. He was a dependable and understanding friend, even bringing me orange juice and magazines when I was too sick to get out of bed.

Chuck fought his diabetes and complications valiantly for years, but I never heard him complain about it or burden anyone with it.

There wasn't a moment or a person while in Chuck's company who wasn't smiling or laughing. He brought so much joy and laughter to everyone who ever knew him. He was a man's man and a woman's delight. Who else would send me an old Christmas card on my birthday, lined out, and his words added? Chuck knew how to enjoy life and made everyone else around him enjoy it too. He is a great loss to all of us.

There is definitely sadness in not having Chuck with us but I know that he and my son Andy are now together, bringing the echoes of angels' laughter to us.

Goodbye my dear friend. I'll miss you--until we meet again.

My Uncle Chuck was one of the best men I have ever known. He always made me laugh even though I was 2000 miles away from him. I have not lived in Tucson for over 25 years, but he was always with me. So many of my friend in Kansas City knew him, although they never met him. I was always able to tell them such funny stories. We will miss you dearly uncle chuck, but I feel so fortunate that you were my Uncle. We love you.

To Sandy and the Cohen Family~ It was with a heavy heart that I read of Chuck's passing. He was a wonderful man and a good friend, but his legacy with all the children who learned to love reading, thanks to him, is beyond boundary. His sense of humor (!!) and fun-loving ways will keep him in our hearts. May all your wonderful memories provide you comfort during this difficult time, and joy again in the near future. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I met Chuck when I first began teaching at Ford Elementary School in 1979. He was a fast friend to me. I loved his irreverent humor and way of looking at people and life. His death is a horrible loss to all of us who loved him, but especially to Sandy and his family.

Uncle Chuck, you will be greatly missed. Passover, Hanukkah, and Rosh Hashanah dinners won’t be quite the same without you. You are so much a part of the fond memories I have growing up and am blessed that my family was able to share them and enjoy many of their own. No one could write a birthday card like you! Birthdays and holidays will be a little less anticipated without you. Hallmark couldn’t hold a candle to you.
We know you’re in a better place now. With any luck, it's adorned with Steeler black and gold. We will miss you dearly. We love you.
Our deepest sympathies to Sandy, Heidi, David and Jeff.

I've known Chuck since his family moved to Tucson from Pittsburgh in his high school years. He was a great friend and I'll miss seeing him and enjoying his quick wit and perspective on life. I'll forever treasure the last time I was with Chuck during our 50th high school reunion. Chuck was one of a kind and I was privileged to be his friend. I know Sandy was a great inspiration to him and I am so happy to have met her. His family has my sincerest condolences and I want them to know that my memories of Chuck will be uppermost in my mind forever.
