Daniel Longoria Obituary

Daniel (Papas) Andres Longoria 5/15/1932 - 5/16/2011 was reunited with his son, Danny and his parents, Juanita and Andres, one day after his 79th birthday. Surrounded by his family, he passed away peacefully due to heart failure. Papas was born in Brownsville, TX and raised in Galveston where he grew to be a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. Papas attended Catholic School and studied to be a priest. Fortunately for his family, Papas met Tina, his beautiful bride of 56 years. They have five adoring daughters, Mary Jane (Gary), Debra (Jerald), Connie (Chris), Anita (Joe) and Denise. He is also survived by his 13 amazing grandchildren and his three great-grandchildren. Papas proudly served in the United States Air Force for 28 years, upon retirement he received his Associates degree in accounting, then worked for the Pima County Sheriff's department where he provided another 15 years of dedicated public service. After Papas' second retirement, he enjoyed life by going to lunch with his children and grandchildren and vacationing with Tina. Viewing is at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Wednesday, May 18, 2011, 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., with the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. There will be a Funeral Mass at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1800 S. Kolb Rd., Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., with interment to follow at Our Lady of the Desert, 2151 S. Avenida Los Reyes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America-Arizona at lupusarizona.org/.

To the Longoria Family,

Words cannot express my sorrow and how much Dan will be missed. I feel fortunate and blessed in working with him at the county.

Aside from making Cami run back from halfway down the halls, he would say every payday was Mother's Day. When I asked him what he meant, he told me "Fredd, that's where my check goes every two weeks, to the mother" he'd smile and wink and to this day I call payday Mother's day.

May God hold you in his arms through this difficult time.

He will be forever remembered in our hearts. Always with a smile and ALWAYS with the corniest jokes. Dan, you brought laughter into our lives, even on the dreariest days. You shall be missed. God Bless

I know Papa loved a good, funny story.
So, here is a funny memory of Papas.

We were both working at the Sheriff's Department in totally different areas. Well, every time I had to go to the potty, Lo and Behold, I would see Papas in the restroom. The same place, same times everyday. We would kid each other, as to, who was following who. It seemed that we were on the same "I have to go," schedule. It got to the point, if we saw each other passing in the hallway, we would ask each other, "Are you going?" We would always respond "Yes, are you going?" The response,"Yes." We had a lot of converstions in the mens restroom. Of course, they were short (going #1) conversations.

I will never forget getting halfway down the hall and having him holler my name. I'd go back to the office and he'd say, "How far would you have gotten if I hadn't called you back?" I fell for it every time...and it happened a LOT! Such a sweet, funny, caring man. I feel blessed to have worked with him. RIP Dan!! May your family be comforted with all the wonderful memories you share!
