Austin CHICO Obituary

CHICO, Austin J., Sr., 61, passed away surrounded by his family on March 28, 2014 after a short battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Augustine and Edith; his brother, Joseph and his nephew, Joseph. He is survived by his wife, Erin; his three children, Melissa, Tara and Austin Jr.; his granddaughter, Ellilah; his sisters, Theresa and Rebecca (Vincent); his brothers, Dennis (Linda) and Wayne and many nieces and nephews. Austin was born on August 22, 1952 and raised in Tucson, Arizona. He graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1970 and went on to attend Pima Community College and became an electrician. He married Erin in 1981 and they had many adventures during their 33 years together. Austin was an avid artist and enjoyed drawing pencil portraits. He was passionate about his Tohono O'odham himdag and spent many hours researching and reading about his heritage. He was a fervent college sports fanatic and loved cheering on his Arizona Wildcats. He loved an array of music that included The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac and Waila, also known as chicken scratch. Austin believed in the foundation of family and always put his family above himself and would help anyone who asked. His family would like to thank the medical staff at St. Joseph's Hospital (4th floor Pavilion) for their compassionate care of Austin during the final weeks of his life. Austin will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts. A wake will be held at 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at FUNERARIA DEL ANGEL SOUTH LAWN on Friday, April 4, 2014. On Saturday, April 5, 2014 a Mass will be held at San Xavier del Bac at 8:00 a.m. with an interment at South Lawn Cemetery. www.funerariadelangelsl.com

Farewell to my brother-in-law Austin Joseph Chico Sr.

God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not meant to be.
So he put his arms around you
And whispered 'Come to Me'.
With tearful eyes we watched you
As we saw you pass away.
Although we loved you deeply,
Your Golden Heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us.
He only takes the best.

Those we love remain with us
For love itself lives on,
And cherished memories never fade
Even though a loved one is gone,
Those we love can never be
More than a thought apart,
For as long as there is memory,
They'll live on in the heart.

Austin, you were all I could ask for in a brother-in-law. You touched so many lives with your kindness, caring, loving and peaceful nature. You will surely be missed.

Rest in perfect peace.
