Edwardo D. Redondo "Lalo" REDONDO

REDONDO, Edwardo D. Redondo "Lalo" 93, of South Tucson, AZ passed away peacefully at his home on August 11, 2017. Edwardo was born on November 24, 1923 in Arivaca, AZ. At age 20, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Upon his return from basic training and prior to his WWII deployment, he married Cecilia Cortez on December 24, 1943. He arrived at Marseille with the 70th Infantry Division on October 15, 1944 and was eventually shipped to northeastern France where his company took up defensive positions along the west bank of the Rhine River. After being evacuated from the front lines, he worked as a hospital cook in Sacramento, CA until his discharge in 1945. After his military service, Edwardo worked as a refrigeration technician for the PFE Railroad Company until he retired in 1982. A devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, Edwardo cherished spending time with his family, cooking, watching movies and military documentaries. He also enjoyed volunteering at his local community center and for his grandchildren's elementary schools making his famous "hotcakes". He is preceded in death by his parents, Luis and Maria Redondo; his siblings, Charlotte, Salome, Mary, Luis, Antonio and Henry. He is survived by his wife, Cecilia; brothers, Danny and Charlie; his sister, Esther and children, Pat Gomez (Claude), Eddie Redondo (Maria), Yolanda Federico, and Cindy Rivera (Paul). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel South Lawn on Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. with the Rosary at 9:00 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Cathedral of Saint Augustine and interment to follow at South Lawn Cemetery.
