Ethel Quattlebaum Obituary

Ethel Mae Jackson Burgess Quattlebaum There's a party going on in Heaven and one of God's faithful has joined in the celebration. Ethel Mae Jackson Burgess Quattlebaum passed from this life on March 25, 2011 at the age of 91. Ethel was born on November 9, 1919 to Irene and Henry Jackson in Navasota, Texas. She grew up in Stamford, Texas and graduated from high school there. She married the late Johnnie B. Burgess in Stamford and they raised five children. She later married James C. Quattlebaum and traveled extensively with him before settling in Tucson to be near her only daughter, Barbara Robinson. Mrs. Quattlebaum was preceded in death by her husband James in 1997; seven brothers and two sisters and two sons, John H. Burgess and Jerry L. Burgess. She is survived by one daughter, Barbara A. Robinson (Joseph) of Tucson, AZ; sons, Gene E. Burgess (Marion) of Abilene, TX, Douglas R. Burgess of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter-in-law, Madras L. Burgess of Waco, TX; former daughter-in-law, Doris Collins of Texas; 23 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A special thank you for all you've done over the years to George Waymon Tyler, Ethel's oldest living nephew. Mrs. Quattlebaum's affiliation with the African Methodist Episcopal Church began as a child in Stamford, TX continuing in Abilene, Texas and concluded with her passing in Tucson, AZ. Prior to the onset of her illness, Mrs. Quattlebaum was a faithful member of Prince Chapel A.M.E church where she and her husband enjoyed many years singing in the choir and working with a host of family church members. The family would like to express our sincere and profound thanks to our mom's doctor Shoba Patel and the nurse corp from Odyssey Hospice Care for their loving care and attention paid to our loved one throughout her final days. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a favorite charity. Services will be held at FUNERARIA DEL ANGEL SOUTH LAWN, 5401 S. Park Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85706 Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Robert L. Ned of Prince Chapel A.M.E. church officiating. What a precious picture. I did not have the opportunity to know either one of my grandmothers or have the priviledge to call anyone "grandma", but she looks like one that I would have picked to be mine. Rest in peace grandma Burgess.

To the family of Mrs. Quattlebaum. My prayers are with you as we say "see you later" to Mrs. Quattlebaum. I will always remembre that smile that she willing gave to us all. Her voice was angelic and comforting. Her gentle spirit with me and "Bill" as only a few ever called him by that nickname. God bless. Joann and William Thompson
