Gilbert Nelson MONTOYA

MONTOYA, Gilbert Nelson 86, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2016 in Tucson, AZ. Gilbert was born December 13, 1930 in Tucson to Florencio and Margaret Montoya. He married Mary Morales Quijada on April 16, 1955 after serving in the Navy. His career in finance brought him to the University of Arizona where he was a financial administrator, receiving multiple recognitions for his exemplary work. He was a member of the Selective Service System, Tucson East BPOE 2532, VFW, American Legion, various golf clubs, and Los Viejos Amigos. Two dreams he fulfilled were to take his wife to Japan to show her where he pitched two no-hitters against the Tokyo Giants when he played baseball with the Navy, and to play golf at St. Andrew's in Scotland. He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Kathleen (Mark); grandchildren, David, Liana, Peter, Patrick and Emily; brother, Alfred (Barbara); sister, Celia and sister-in-law, Alice. A Rosary will be said at 9:00 a.m. followed by Mass at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo.
