James Gennette Obituary

James N. Gennette, Jr. 1/22/1947 - 3/18/2011 Jim's bright, burning flame was extinguished this week and his friends and family will miss him terribly. He was a wonderful friend, a great father and an outstanding businessman. Jim was born in Ontario, OR and grew up in Las Vegas, NV. He attended Bishop Gorman High School and UNLV. He began a long and accomplished career in 1967 when he joined the National Car Rental Corporation in Las Vegas. Jim made history in 1969, at the age of 22, when he was promoted to the position of City Manager of the National Car Rental operation in Spokane, Washington, the youngest person ever appointed to such a position. During his long and distinguished career, he held similar top management positions in Sacramento, CA, Las Vegas, NV, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Chattanooga, TN and Austin, TX. Jim was a cherished father, brother, husband and friend. He would do anything for you and was always there when you needed him. He loved golf, baseball, college basketball, the Texas Longhorns and good old rock and roll. His infectious smile and sweet spirit will be deeply missed by his friends and family. Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Joan and his sister, La Donna "Kay". Survived by his father, James Sr.; son, James III; daughter, Bridget; brother, Bob (Kathy); sister, Mary Ann and best friend, Joe Coon. A Memorial Service will be Monday, March 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

I grew up with Jimmy on Mc Williams Street in Greater Las Vegas. I remember playing hide and go seek, red rover, red light, green light, tag. We all had so much fun in those days. Knew and loved his mom and dad and especially his little sister MaryAnne. I used to take her for walks and play with her. My condolences to the family and close friends.

Jim was on my team at Citi. He was always so polite and kind and very quiet. We used to tease him and say "Jim you are so noisy and loud, you talk way too much". Of course, we all know, he was just the opposite. My thoughts and prayers to Jim and his family. Jim you will be missed. Take care my friend and God Bless. Jeanie DeLauro
