Scott CARLSON Obituary

CARLSON, Scott Mitchell 6/26/1958 - 12/30/2017 Scott Carlson died far too soon at the age of 59.  Scott was warm and generous, had a passion for sports and travel, and he had an endless love of "tinkering" and working outdoors.  Family meant everything to Scott and he was so very proud of the fine women his daughters have become. Scott contributed significantly in his profession as a computer design engineer, publishing over 45 patents and received a Master Inventor designation from IBM. Scott is survived by his wife, Vicki Loyer Carlson; and daughters, Paige and Audrey Carlson in Tucson. Also surviving is his father, Don Carlson, Walnut Creek CA;  brother, Matt in  Nicaragua and brother, Doug in Orinda, CA; and  respective sisters-in- law and nephews.  Scott's mother, Jane W. Carlson, predeceased Scott in January, 2017.  Scott graduated from Northgate High School in 1976 and from UC - Davis  in 1980, majoring in Electrical Engineering/ Computer Science.  Funeral arrangements have been made with BRING'S&Nbsp;BROADWAY CHAPEL in Tucson Arizona for Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 3:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Facing Addiction, Inc., 100 Mill Plain Rd., 3rd FL., Danbury, CT 06811 facingaddiction.org/donate

It was a shocking, unfortunate, surprise for me landing on this page after searching for Scott online.

I worked with Scott on the Server Time Protocol for z Mainframe a few years ago. It was for this work that he received the IBM Corporate Award, the top technical award at IBM. Scott was always a cheerful person with rigor, insights and wisdom. He told me how beautiful Tucson was and asked me to visit him.

Now I will miss Scott dearly.

We are saddened to hear of this terrible news. I have spent countless hours working with Scott at IBM and at T11 standard meetings. I wish his entire family peace and happiness in the days to come. Roger and Wendy Hathorn

The richness of humanity is reduced with Scott's passing. A childhood friend, fellow Electrical Engineering peer at U.C. Davis, and vagabond traveling companion for many months in Brazil and elsewhere, I remember Scott's charming wit, keen intelligence, and magnetizing good nature. The definition of a true gentleman, Scott you will be missed.

I am shocked and saddened to learn of Scott's passing. I send my condolences to all.

I feel blessed to know Scott during our high school years. Whether it was watching him school adept basketball players who were usually a fool taller, or having him explain some of the more esoteric lyrics of Dark Side of the Moon, I was always impressed by Scott's abilities, intelligence, grace and modesty.

Perhaps I am most gratefully for Scott hosting me and two university friends during our first trip to Europe. Scott graciously took time off work to drive us from Munich to see the contrast between East and West that was Berlin in 1985. While we demonstrated our U.S and Canadian naïveté, Scott demonstrated how to communicate in a foreign language and live like a local in another culture. I will always remember and be indebted to Scott for the graciousness and wit and wisdom he displayed to us and those we met. Scott was a special host and a special friend.

I am honored to have known him if only for too short a time.

Mr. Carlson, Vicki, Doug, Matt, Paige and Audrey:
I am deeply saddened by the news of Scott's passing. Scott was a great friend and a better person. I always had a deep respect for Scott because he was the best at everything he did. From sports, school, his travels, career and family. He always excelled.

He really lived life to it's fullest. I will always have fond memories of the times we had together. Scott will be deeply missed.

My condolences to his family and friends. I grew up with Scott in Walnut Creek & spent many a day at the junior high shooting hoops & playing baseball. He was a good friend and teammate. He was the nicest guy anyone could ever meet. We were all better off for knowing him.

My condolences to the entire Carlson Family. I grew up near Scott and his family in Walnut Creek. Scott and my brother Tom were very good friends. Although Scott was three years my senior, I'll always remember him as polite, humble, honest and one of the best scholar-athletes in the area. He will be greatly missed.
