Albert Michalczyk Obituary

Albert S. Michalczyk 4/6/1930 - 4/25/2011 Loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and dear friend to many, passed away after a long, valiant fight with coronary heart disease. Albert is survived by his wife, Penna, as well as five children: including daughters, Kimberli (Ron) Diehl of Ill, Kerry (Brian) Michelotti of Fla, Klaudia (Don) Spangler of Ill, Jill (Rick) Palermo of VA and a son, Tom (Diane) Mackie of PA; ten grandchildren and one great-grandson. Al was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn; his parents and four siblings. Al was born and raised in Chicago, Ill, and worked as a carpenter and general contractor, owning his own construction business. He raised his family in nearby Norridge, Ill, where he was a dedicated and enthusiastic advocate for his church and local community. Al served on the Norridge School District 80 Board of Education from 1970-76 and again from 1980-83, and was elected to the Village of Norridge Board of Trustees in 1982, serving four years. Al and Penna moved to Grayslake, Ill, after they finished building their dream home in 1986. Al and Penna retired in 2000 to Sun City Vistoso, Oro Valley, AZ, where they have enjoyed golf, traveling, meeting new friends and participating in many activities. Al had a beautiful tenor voice, which he generously shared with friends and family, performing solos at numerous weddings and funerals. Al also devoted many years to his church choirs, as singing was his favorite way to honor his Lord and Savior. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral Services will be held at Resurrection Lutheran Church on Friday, April 29, 2011. Viewing will commence at 10:00 a.m. Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Memorial gifts in honor of Al can be made to Resurrection Lutheran Church, 11575 N. 1st Ave., Tucson, AZ 85737-8700. Next to my Dad, I can't think of any one person that had a more positive influence on my life as a young man. He was one of those special people that displayed his Christian faith not just in words, but in how he chose to lead his life. I don't know if anyone else lit up a room when they walked in like Mr. M. did.

I was just telling my wife within the past few months one of my favorite stories from the days at Acacia Park Lutheran Church.

Mr. M. always cooked pancakes at the father/son breakfasts at Acacia, and I loved them. My Dad told him how much I enjoyed his cooking, so he came out of the kitchen and told me what his secret ingredient was...cigar ashes. This was in the early 60s, and smoking a stogie while you cooked in the church kitchen was pretty commonplace. I was just 4 or 5 years old, and believed him.

I didn't care for organized sports as a kid, but I played softball at Acacia because Mr. M was the coach.

Proof of his positive influence on people was displayed every day by his family. I knew Kim and Ron the best--they were, and I am sure still are, the best of the best.

I don't think I ever met Penna. I was off to the military before that stage of Mr. M's life. I wish Penna my condolences at a very difficult time. I know Mr. M is watching down on us with that big smile on his face.

Penna, we will remember you in our prayers at this sad time. Also have so many wonderful memories all the way back to our childhood in Norridge. Uncle Al was a rock to our family more than once and we will miss him. I know he is in heaven with his best friend, my Dad. We all loved him, and you, very much.

I'm saddened for your loss and will continue to pray for you all during the grieving. I am also singing His praises for giving you all such a wonderful blessing in life. While I only had the pleasure of meeting Al a handful of times, he brought joy and caring to any function. And look at the children he has raised ... a testament to his high regard for family and faith. You all have been given quite a gift, and now he's been called home. May God continue to bless you all through this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love Debbie (Spangler) Cooper

We were so saddened to learn of Uncle Al's passing. However, it brings us great joy to say that he was family! His warm sense of humor and caring touched our lives. Thinking of him will always bring a smile to us, he was just a wonderful person! Although he tried to improve Dan's golf game.....that proved to be too much to ask. We certainly enjoyed and looked forward to our visits with him. Our thoughts are with the whole family. Thinking of you all and wishing we could give a hug! Love Dan, Amy, Erin, Janelle & Kyle Beske
