Andrea GABBERT Obituary
GABBERT, Andrea passed away October 31, 2017, she was born in 1933 in Oxnard, CA to her parents, Milton M. and Alfrida P. Teague. She graduated from high school at St. Catherine's Academy in Ventura, CA in 1951, and then attended Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. In 1953, she attended Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City. She married Lt. Howard M. Gabbert II in June, 1954 in Santa Paula, CA. The Gabberts then began a 26 year career in the U.S. Army, which took them to Texas, Washington state, Alaska, New York state, Maryland, Panama, and Kansas. While Howard served in Vietnam, Andrea lived with her parents in California. They then moved to Virginia, Texas, and Canada. From there to Pennsylvania, Arizona, Japan, and Virginia. Howard then retired from the Army after 26 years of service and they moved to Long Island, NY. 11 years later, a second retirement took them to Tucson, AZ in 1990, where they have lived for the past 27 years. In Tucson, Andrea was an active member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church. She sang in the choir for seven years, and also served as an usher. She was a volunteer baby cuddler in Tucson Medical Center's Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit for 15 years. She was fond of reading mysteries, and enjoyed jazz cruises and travel. Andrea Gabbert is survived by her husband, Howard; son, Matthew and daughter-in-law, Lorraine and four grandchildren of San Jose, CA; son, Andrew and daughter-in-law, Betsy of Crozet, VA. Andrea's cremains were inurned in a private ceremony at St. Philip's Columbarium in November, 2017. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at St. Philip's. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Andrea's life. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Philip's music program will be appreciated.
