Bonnie TRAWICKI Obituary

TRAWICKI, Bonnie Mae passed away in Tucson, Arizona on April 4, 2017, with her family by her side, after a very short struggle with pancreatic cancer. Bonnie was born on May 1, 1935, in Wausau, Wisconsin, to Walter and Ada Warosh. She grew up in Edgar and Wausau, Wisconsin, and graduated from Wausau High School. After two years at the University of Wisconsin she attended secretarial school and went to work at Capitol Airlines in Milwaukee. She and her husband, Don knew each other growing up, and the relationship developed to love and marriage in 1956. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August, 2016, in McCall, Idaho. After their marriage, Bonnie worked for TWA in Boston and earned her PHT (putting hubby through) as Don got his graduate degree. In 1958 they moved to Milwaukee where their five children were born. In 1971, Don transferred to the New York office and the family moved to Madison, New Jersey. Bonnie continued to do what mothers do to raise five children (bake brownies for school events, drive kids to wherever they had to go, lead a girl scout troop, etc,). She also played a lot of golf and bridge. A great family activity was skiing. On Fridays she would load the kids and the gear in the van and drive into New York City to pick up Don for their drive to Killington, Vermont for the week-end. When Don retired in 1990 they moved to Tucson, Arizona, and also built a house on Payette Lake in McCall, Idaho. Bonnie was an avid golfer. She and Don took golfing trips to Ireland and Scotland, and two, month-long trips to New Zealand. In Tucson, Bonnie volunteered at the Assistance League of Tucson for many years. Bonnie was a fierce competitor in every game she played, whether it was golf, bridge, sheepshead, gin rummy or " Hand and Foot." She was notorious for betting a quarter for chipping closest to the pin with all the ladies she played golf with in McCall, at Tucson Country Club and at Ventana Golf Club. Bonnie was always cheerful, always up-beat, always ready to lend a hand or a shoulder. She was loved by everyone who knew her. She is sorely missed by her friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Susan Cornish. She is survived by her husband, Don and their children, Susan (Rick) Anderson, Jane (Mark) Hanlon, John (Cindy) Trawicki, Laura (Dave Breun) Trawicki, Betsy Keegan (Marc Dorward) and ten grandchildren. A Celebration of Life is being planned for late May in Tucson. Contributions in Bonnie's name may be made to her favorite charity, the Shriner's Hospitals for Children.

One of my parents' dearest friends were Don and Bonnie. Yesterday, while looking through an old cookbook of my parents', a hand-typed recipe from my father dated 1990 fell out with the title "Bonnie's Texas baked beans." May her recipe live on, as she was a lover of fine home cooking.

I wish I had gotten to know Bonnie sooner. She was very warm and friendly from the moment I met her. She was one of the pool "girls" at our neighborhood pool. It was always more fun when she joined us. We all miss her very much.

I met this incredible woman in Mbuji Mayi, Zaire in 1981. She and Don were there to visit their daughter Sue, a good friend of mine. This place in the world was inaccessible by conventional means, but that didn't stop those kids from Wisconsin! I think they had to take a cargo plane from the capital and lost their luggage in the process, but persevered and rolled with the punches. Bonnie was the consummate mom, as I would learn in subsequent years, but she proved that when we met, as she took all of us volunteers into her circle of love and laughter. Luckily for me my relationship with the family continued after Peace Corps, and I will never forget her large heart and wicked sense of humor. She was like a mom to me, and I wanted to be Bonnie when I grew up. Go in grace lovely lady. You will be missed.

Condolences from the Crabtree sisters (jean, Gayle, and Ellen) to Don, Susie, Jane, John, Laura, and Betsy and their families. I was in Edgar last week visiting Bonnie's cousins Kurt Umnus "Junior" and Jim Warosh, and we were studying a photo from 10/10/1942 looking at all the little kids in it. It was taken on the Umnus farm, reception for Bonnie's cousin Dorothy's wedding, and we talked about how cute Bonnie was! I was fortunate to get to know her through my mother Toodie, and I loved her zest for life! She sure loved her family, especially the grandchildren! I will miss her letters and photos. love, jean

She will be missed by all. She was a legend around McCall especially with the McCall Ladies Golf Association. Fun to golf with and visit with. A true friend. She was so proud of her family and carried around an 8X10 picture of them taken at their reunion last summer in McCall.

Few people make great impacts on other lives, Bonnie Mae did. I'll think of her at every turn on the golf course and every wild bid at bridge. Just wish I could remember the entire poem she recited to me to help me turn in my swing ro the hole. I wear a birdie golf marker on my hat that she won but gave to me when I played in my first tournament. Bonnie Kay.
