Charles Wiley Hinman

Charles Wiley Hinman 2/9/1927 - 3/27/2011 Born in Boon, Iowa. Predeceased by his parents, Ruby and John and his brother, Jack. Survived by his daughter, Carmen (Dave) Del Grande; granddaughter, Erin (Mike) Mosman; great-grandson, Andrew Mosman; sister, Jeanette Peterson; his neighbor, friend and wife, Irene and her daughters and grand kids that he loved as his own. Chuck served in the Army Air Force from '44 - '46. He graduated Grinnell College in '51 with an A.B. in chemistry and got his Ph.D. in Organic and Bio-Chemistry in '54 at U of IL. He worked for Dow Chemical Co. from '54 to '76 holding several positions of importance including Director of Research for both humans and animal application, Director of Scientific Relations with global responsibility, and Director of Pharmaceutical R&D. When he did all he could at Dow he left and went to Diamond Shamrock where he was Director of Life Sciences and Exploratory Research. Chuck served on several U.S. Government advisory commissions including the Solar Energy Research Institute - Biomass, and U.S. Armed Forces Chemical Association. He has had several papers published in technical journals, a book published and held various patents. He served as an adjunct professor at the U. of A. College of Agriculture and served on the board of Directors of several companies before forming his own consulting company. He will be missed by all of us and remembered as a kind, learned and gentle gentleman. Services will be Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Philips in the Hills, River Rd. and Campbell Ave. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
